Subject: Eclipse CD8053

Problem: I get a "thump" from the subs when i turn it off, switch radio stations, take out cd's, and switch from radio to cd.

Suggestion made so far: Bad ground

I have attempted to solve this by grounding it to bare metal on the chassi of my car. It still continues to harrass me(you little fcker!). Could it be the ground wire got disconnected in the wire harness(internal problem in the wire harness). I've switched out the deck with others and its not my amps or subs(its only with the subs i've noticed it). Could it just be a bad deck? When I first bought it, I didnt have subs connected until about a year later. I've also noticed that lately the face of the deck is getting hot and the cd's are HOT HOT when i pull them out and switch them. All signs pointing to too much electricity in the deck, but its attached properly.

I want this problem solved! I want different subs, but I dont want to throw money into new subs, if the deck is just going to damage them. This is a really great sounding deck, except for this really damaging flaw.

Any suggestions?

run a ground wire from your deck to your amp ground.

Some products turn on/off faster than others so you may experience turn off pop. There are products to eliminate/reduce the problem.

I had a cd8445 (i think that was the model) that did the same thing. You couldn't hear it over road noise though. I was never really able to figure it out. It almost sounded like the pre amp circuit in the deck was turning off and back on everytime you switched sources.

to my understanding, there is no internal amp on this. you cant run speakers just on the deck, you have to connect an external amp in order to play music.

i was thinking of sending it out to get repaired bit now i'm thinking of just selling it and saving that combine it with more funds and buy something that'll give me my stock deck back. like the cleansweep or the RF 360, but i've been out of the car audio scene for so long, i dont know whats crap or not.

what will this do? dont mean to sound like an a-hole, but i wouldnt mind hearing a little bit of the physics on how or why this will work. its a hassle to get to everthing

i've read about it on the caraudio.com forum. supposed to help with the "pop" you hear when turning on the car and whatnot. i'll be doing it when i install my new Head Unit in my ZX.

in fact, the Tsunami amp wiring kit i just bought to put my system in my ZX, came with 15' of remote wire AND 15' of ground wire (same size as the remote wire) and it showed right on the back of the packaging that it was to tie the Head unit ground to the amp ground.

another thing you could check is how are your RCAs and amp power wire ran? running the RCAs next to the power wire will cause them to pick up interference as well. i usually run the power wire down one side of the vehicle and the RCAs down the other. also keep an eye out for other factory wiring that you run the RCAs next to for the same reason. "snake" any extra RCA wire you have left after getting it all hooked up to help with interference as well.

if you aready checked your ground then you should check your rcas. the rcas might be grounded out. if i were youi'll connect a new pair of rca and try it out. there is logic in it but it'll take too long to explain.
