whenever I see electric fans on an sr/ca/ka/rb alot of times people are still running studs and nuts as opposed to just bolts. is there an advantage to this or are people just lazy to buy new bolts to replace the studs? personnally i think bolts would look better.

Why bother taking the time to remove the studs, which work perfectly fine, and replace them with a bolt?

A bolt has more mass than a stud / nut.

you have a good cm of useless stud hanging out, a properly sized bolt i bet will weigh less than a stud/nut meant for a clutch fan

does it seriously matter? no. it does not matter. if you want to save weight then buy lightweight pullys. but if you don't wanna spend the money then jsut buy some nuts and bolts and do it your self. you could even write a DIY for the forum.

i still have studs sticking out from my water pump pully. why you ask?? because it seriously doesn't matter. i'd rather spend the time it would take to drive to lowes and back doing something that involves not moving.

You are talking about a minute amount of material. Even I know that it is seriously minute in the scheme of performance and I'm the kind of person that would strip paint off a car to save weight.

Not sure why people would put a bolt in place of just a stud - I would remove it all together.

Any minute mass offset would throw the weight balance of the pulley off.. Imagine it spinning at 8000rpm with one bolt being half a centimeter shorter.

I've got bolts on mine for one good reason. The studs seized in my old water pump and decided to screw it and got some nice bolts to hold the pulley on the new water pump.

tell us how you'd keep the pulley on in that case.

when you get a new water pump you have to use bolts. unless you double nut the rusty studs and back them out to reuse them which is more gay than finding bolts.

+1 for not mattering but bolts look cleaner
