does the smoke smell sweet kinda? if so then the koyo is getting hot and burning off the coolant that you spilled.... best way is get rid of that fast is when you done hose it down with water after you put everything back....it will go away......

sounds like it could be coolant burning off.

also make sure you have bled properly. and if you have try again for good measure.

Dang my Koyo is steaming like crazy too. My engine sat for a few months with no coolant at all. I filled it up and when it warms up it steams a lot. I have no thermostat installed and I haven't tried to bleed the system yet, but my temp gauge never gets high.

I was thinking it was because the previous owner installed an electric fan and might have damaged the core when he pushed the brackets through, but it's just steaming, not dripping or anything.

That would be nice if it was just coolant burning off, I don't really feel like dropping another $300 on a new koyo.

Where is the steam coming from? the cap or down low?(an easy way to check is put a piece of paper or cardboard or something above where the steam is coming from and work your way down until it's not blocking it anymore)

check the drain plug. I've heard story about them leaking. If thats the case use teflon tape and cross your fingers.

Use a vice grip and and buy a replacement bleeder valve. You can also get speed bleeders at a NAPA store or summitracing.

i bought those new vlaves and still with a vise grip cant get these damn vlaves outs, dropped the car off the stands tonight, with speedo not wire up, and the radiator still steaming away. (i thought it was fixed but now under pressure still steams) and still fans not wired in.

went to back out off the driveway, and it appears either my left front tie rod came unbolted, or just snapped idk, cuz the wheel was cut like 90 degree's and the other one was cut like 40 maybe not much at all, , i gave up for the night its sooo damn frustratin, u fix one thing and 2 more break ... hopefully its unbolted or something stupid, there brand new.. i just couldnt work in the cold being mad anymore...

Make sure you use FLARE NUT WRENCHES!!!!! on any brake parts otherwise you will end up stripping every single one of them.

Ok, for you to diagnose your steaming problem. Wait until your car is completely cooled down, open your rad cap and start your engine. If you start to see coolant shooting out or bubbles coming out, your HG is blown. Your steam-out-of-radiator problem might be related to your HG.

I know what it feels like when things on your car breaks down...we've all been ther but hang in there and GL!

Um BUMP

My radiator is still steaming too. I had it pressure and flow checked at a local radiator shop and they said it checked out perfect... but I'm still steaming when I get up to temp. I am currently running no thermostat, I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Dude, you really have to make sure that the tie rods are even. You are supposed to eyeball them then take the car immediately to get an alignment. I am pretty sure you have them off which is causing severe (suspnsion angle word) problems. You can't drive like this for long, it will ruin your tires and probably other parts of your suspension.

No thermo is bad. Especially if you have a possible cooling system problem.

Also, my third build had a smoking Radiator. I saw bubbles and it was not a blown HG. I thought it was for a while, but after I actually let the bubbles go away and drove the car for a day it was all fine.

I also dont recommend drivin your car with your fans not working. When you are p to temp is when you need them the most! Those fans actually do most of the work the radiator needs them. You radiator may get extremely hot because of those fans not working, but remember that Koyos will get hot on the return side first and then it starts to warm up the rest. That is just hte natural flow of coolant and the fact that the radiator is metal will mean that it is going to heat up. But you need to get those fans goin' before you take drives. Aluminum blocks dont like extreme temperature change.
