Anybody know what the solid black plastic square is in the lower black grill? It apparently covers a pitot type tube. What does it do? Can it be removed?

Your probably talking about the sensor for the adaptive cruise control. If you remove it then you'll probably get a malfuction cruise control light on.

If it is the rectangular dark smoked glass piece you are talking about....then you better leave it alone. That's the Adaptive cruise control sensor! It far from cheap to replace, repair, or adjust.

Pop it out from the bottom with a flathead scewdriver. It reveals the threads for your "tow hook" that should have come with your M. Get stuck in the mud, screw the tow hook into the treads and have a friend pull you out. Or the tow truck driver can use it to pull your disabled M on the flatbed tow truck. Look in your truck on the left side where the tire tools are located, tow hook should be in there.
