So I drive a 05 g35 coupe 6mt an I blew the motor. I recently bought a 04 g35 sedan automatic that was wrecked. I want to swap the motor an sell as a parts car. Both motors are vq35de. I've done some research. My 05 motor has two extra sensors on the camshafts I believe an the timing chain covers are different but other than that all looks to be the same. Can anyone tell me if I can swap these two? Also does the ecu need to be swapped as well? Thanks

Great question, welcome aboard!

I'll get the VQ experts in here to help, but I'm going to guess the longblocks are identical. The ECU could present an issue due to the chipped keys, so I'm going to guess you'll want to replace ONLY the "broken" parts (short block).

Yeah that's all I need really. I've talked to an infiniti tech in greenwood Indiana an he said that the rods in the 04 are shorter than the 05. That's why the 04 makes less power. Also thanks for the help

Welcome to NICO!

If you don't mind can you get me the production month/year off of both vehicles?

The 2004 VQ motor is the original VQ35DE motor while the 2005-06 models are the "Rev-Up" version of the VQ. There are some differences, such as the rods being longer.

I will try to do some digging and get a comprehensive list of differences between the two motors for you.

The following video touches on a lot of the differences at a high level at the beginning. Hope you find this helpful:

Actually the G35 didn't get the "Rev-up" motor until 2007 and that was only in the sedan model, the coupe still had the DE.

He drives a coupe with a manual. The coupe got the Rev-Up (which is still a DE) in 2005. The sedan got the 3.5 HR in 2007 when they changed body styles while the coupe never got the 3.5 HR at all.

Ok so I talked to a guy from importpartspro in Texas an he told me the bottom end is all the same. Is this true? If so I can just swap bottom ends an all will be good
