yo i dunno where else to ask this.. theres 300zx i like and the guy told me he would sell it to me for 3 grand.. its a 91' twin turbo coupe however he told me the turbos dont work and the power steering is out.. how much u think i should pay? and does anyone know how much turbos cost to change? and the steering? thx

you better offer him like 1400 for that... if its TT and they dont work.. whats the point. power steering isnt too big... but the TT isa big factor.. offer him 1400. he must have done something to it.

Well, it depends on whats wrong with the turbos. : ) You could have catastrophic engine failure on your hands. If for some reason the compressors exploded into fragmented metal and were sucked into your engine, you'd be in a bit of trouble. If for some reason the exhaust side fragmented into twisted shards of metal and ripped out the exhaust it wouldn't be THAT bad. If the manifolds ****ed you're in trouble, if for some reason they just choked to death then its fixable. Just so long as theres nothing terribly wrong with the car, I can't see how 3,000 dollars would be a bad price. May as well try and talk him down. : ) Getting replacement turbos would be as hard as finding a couple of SR turbos or 300ZX turbos on ebay for a couple hundred bucks. Or you could upgrade to T28s or something and keep the stock manifold which would see a nice increase in power. Just depends on how much damage there is. If its in good shape, you'll be alright, getting a power steering pump wouldn't be too rough either. Have a mechanic check it out and then go for it. : ) You can always put new turbos and power steering in and resell it for like 8k easy. : )

Hey Daunt, do you really think the shards of metal from an exploded compressor wheel could actually make it through an intercooler and into your engine? =) I would think the piece of metal would be have to be really really small

Actually, I would imagine it just tears thru the intercooler at that speed, like a bullet. However, the only one I know of that shattered was non-intercooled, didn't even think about that. : )
