Well, at the very least, you will probably have a rapidly deflating tire, depending on where the crack is located at.

At worst? Don't really know, as I haven't heard of horror stories with wheels breaking apart or anything like that, but a 4 inch crack sounds pretty big. Avoid high speeds if you can. As for repairing it, maybe a local body shop would know a good place, I can't think of any offhand.

Exar-Kun probably has a lot more insight into this problem than I do, you may want to ask him or move your thread to the suspension/wheels forum.

The worst that could happen is that the wheel break, you run into a bus full of pregnant Nuns and kill them all and you are in a concious (sp?) but paralyzed state the rest of your life to think about what you did.

Just kidding. And yest I know that there's not supposed to be pregnant nuns...that kinda defeats the purpose of what "none" means.

Your wheel will break. I watched a friends wheel break from a hairline crack (like yours) going into 100+mph sweeper. Wasn't pretty. The entire spoke section seperated from the outer edged of the rim. We didn't know about the cracks until after (2 other wheels showed signs of cracking).

Get rid of the wheel now before something bad happens.

Also, you won't be able to get that repaired. The crack runs through the rim, it's not just the outside. Wheels are either cast or forged together in one peice; you can't just weld it up.

You're not screwed yet. But if something breaks and you crash, then you'll be screwed. Try to put on the spare and drive slowly or go to the junkyard and get something to hold you over until you can replace it. Hopefully we're only talking one rim right? Also please alert us as to what wheel (manufacturer and sytle, etc) so we can avoid them.

it was the rim itself that was bad.... I let my friend drive the car and he hit the freaking curve trying to e-brake on the turn.... but good thing i didnt have a low profile tires cuz then i would have REALLY been screwed

best case: you have a slow leak, and have to put air in it.PROBABLY CASE: the crack will enlarge with the impacts and pressures of the road/car, etc and eventually split the wheel, causing it to fail, and leaving you stranded.worst case: the wheel breakse, tire flyes off and you drop onto your brake rotor to stop the vehicle, causing traffic behind you to hit you, or at the least give them a good wake-up call. YOUr suspension arm, and body panel are broken, allong with your hub, bearing, and a host of other suspensions peices....totalling the car, on a effective basis(the repairs cost more then the car is worth)

put the spare on the vehicle, drive to a wheel place and get it fixed, or buy a set of stock wheels, etc....SOON.-chet

Get your clumsy chum to buy you a new wheel, and then bash him over the noggin with the old one. E-brake turn, indeed.

A New York junkyard should have S13 15" alloy rims, they aren't that hard to find. I was looking in Philly for a set not too long ago and found four SE alloys pretty easily.

The worst that can happen? Someone could get killed from an accident resulting from wheel failure. Perhaps even several people. Damage to a car is one thing. Loss of a life is another. No reason to compromise the safety of you or others on the road.

Damn straight.

You learned a lesson. Never, ever let your friends take your car out for a spirited drive.

Ever.

I totally agree with Dori Dori. Don't drive another second on that wheel. It is foolish if you know there is a problem to keep driving on it.

Did you just buy your car? If so, you are probably just feeling the effect of blown struts and bushings.

As for the wheel repair, call around some local wheel shops and see if they know of anyone.

Well, it's possible some components of the multilink suspension may have been damaged, depending on how hard your Takumi-wannabe friend dinged the curb.

Since he struck it hard enough to crack the rim, chances are something else was banged up as well...check the links on that side when you have the wheel off. Suspensions are engineered to handle harsh vertical impacts, but not horizontal like that. :(

Try these guys: http://www.fixrim.com - they have a shop in NY. Depending on what type of rim you have though, it could very well cost you as much to fix it as to replace it.
