7500 according to my tach but I have wound it to 8200. The stock turbo is not that great yours will be blown if you get a clip from Japan, they all are. The S14 turbo I have is set at about 15lbs and loves it, the stock head gasket has shown no sign of a whimper either.

Paul shifts his CA at 9000, but his is a built motor.

Stock SR internals can handle 15psi pretty easily as long as you have it tuned pretty well.

blown as in seals leaking oil and too much sideplay. The wife's 180sx was bought off the lot with one in this condition, everybody I know with the stock turbo still on it has the same thing and every one in the junkyard I find is dead or locked up so unless the company you are getting the motor from has a iron clad guarantee on the turbo bolted to the motor you buy count on replacing it within six months.Stateside guys talk about these JDM engines as if they are new, they are not and almost every one has been beat on, denied proper maintenance or both by a Japanese guy for however many kilometers it was used. Buyer beware.

SR20 turbos do seem to last longer than CA turbos though. They are younger and just seem to be built better than the CA ones, they make a good upgrade if you find one in decent condition.

The peak power for the stock ca18det is 6800 rpm, you can push it to 8000rpm but you will be lossing power, other wise you have to get exhaust and other mods, and turn up the boost. Regarding to the stock turbo. I got three engines ca18det from Japan and a two of my friends got them too, and all the turbos had blown seal. So if you are buying a ca18det be ready either to rebuild it or to replace it. One of the reasons is that the engines site for a while when the come from japan and the seals on the turbo will dry up.

Revving a stock CA past 7500 is purely for personal pleasure. Even so, the valvesprings are about maxed out anyway. Your turbo may last a little while, but it will eventually crap its oil seal and you'll be driving a nice looking mosquito killer. If you're going to spend money on a new turbo, screw the S14's and go for T3/T04 hybrids or the GT3037 in which these units are capable of supporting well over 300whp.

With the reground cams in my girl's car, I wound the engine to 9000 on a regular basis (spike). Not a whole lot of power in that range, but the turbo stayed on boost.

mine was non turbo I had to rev it that high so it wouldn't bog, You should not have to go that high with a turbo. Judging by the bearings I pulled out of the motor it was hurting it.

I killed my CA18DE too. It knocked and I changed the rod bearings and it knocked again (right away).

well I fried the computer on mine trying to run low impedance turbo injectors, duaah! Lemme throw this at ya and tell me what you think. The rearmost crank main bearing is worn towards the rear of the engine and the #1 rod bearing is worn towards the the front of the motor. Bent crank? worn thrust bearing? low oil supply? I just drive like an *******?

Seems like your oil supply is restricted or you just got a worn pump.
