Hey, I was just curious as to if anyone knows what the letters stand for in the car names. Such as the 'G' in G35 or the 'Q' in Q45. Now the number represents the engine, correct? The G35 and FX35 have the V-6 and the Q45 and FX 45 have the V-8, right?

Just wondering.

the number = engine letter is to separate the classes.

Q = VH45DE

The letter does not "stand for" anything. Although I love the Q... When people ask what you drive, it's so damn cool to just say, "I own a Q."

It appears that Nissan has used a letter/number combination on their cars for years... I vaguely remember my 91 Maxima being a "J30" - thought that was interesting at the time...

Looks like the letters get progressively higher with price point... G, M, Q, but everything goes weird when you get into the SUV's since they're trying to get an X in there somewhere to indicate the 4WD capabilities...

I think it might have to do with the design studio, or a design team designation. The I, J, G, M, Q, QX, and FX might be separate design teams at Nissan/Infiniti.

That is my $.02 worth

The price/class thing sounds like a good hunch, with prices getting higher as the label creeps toward the letter Z. Maybe someday we'll have an exotic to compete with the NSX, called the Z60!
