Whats the difference between....

Call me stupid, but whats the difference between a Short Air Intake... and just removing all the stock intake up to the breather box and using a K&N filter?

Wouldent this basically be the same?

Short ram would be the pipe from TB to Filter. Usually replacing that pipe could be smoother bends, bigger inner diameter, etc when compared to the OEM intake tube.

Would the difference in performance gains be? Similar? or differences negligible? I heard the performance improvements on the Versa werent significant to begin with with intakes.
