Whats the Diff?

Hey folks! I just picked up a 1991 240sx with a ka24de(at least it says so on hood..) how do i know its a de? and whats the difference between the DE and the E? and which one is better? is it just smae block, but different heads? are there any books out there on these engine/mods i ve got a ton ford small block books...

DE = Dual Overhead Cam E= Single overhead cam

The DE has a bit more power. You can recognize it from the spark plugs in the middle of the valve cover.

thanks!, i guess i have a regular KA24E then....did the 91s come stock with that? it has an automatic trans., did A sportier version come tihe the de and the 5 spd?

heres a nother question!

im in the process of swapping out motors in a 95 altima(got a good motor bad body to good body bad motor)....it has a ka24de motor in it..., the bad motor comin out has a spun bearing....and If the block is good Ill build it into some worthwhile. heres the question: if i were to put that motor into my 91 sx, the distrubutor would be facing aft..now can i use the block? with a differet head? or can this work?(its a transverse motor in the altima)

if the block is for a front wheel drive vertion..then the distributor will be imbeded into the firewall...if my logic is corect..its the same swapp issue as the sr20de longblocks from front wheel drive platforms...im not shure in your case thou..but there might be a workaround with the head....hopefully anotyher nicco head would have that answer for you..good luck.

All 240sx's after 91 came with ka24de either 5 speed or auto. Id check to see if the altima has a different bell housing bolt pattern on the block because front drive sr blocks are different then rear drive.
