k, so ive been looking into getting a nissan for a while, but i dont know which one. at first it was the 240, then i found out i could get a skyline gts-t for 7000 (landed cost in vancouver), and then i realized i could also get a 300zx fairlady twin turbo v6 for the same price. now, which is better, the gts-t or the fairlady?? i know the skyline is way easier to mod, and has 4 seats, but eh fairlady is pretty darn cool as well. can you mod a 300zx as easily as a skyline?? like, are there computer upgrades etc? and another thing is there are already 300zxs here in north america, so im guessing it would be easier to find parts! anyways, any opinions???

Only you can answer the question what is best for you. All the cars listed have merits for different reasons and it really has a lot to do with your personality and intended use for your vehicle. Please use our search function up at the top of the page. You will spend days soaking up tons of info if you do. After that you will have a better idea of what is best for you.

Between GT-S and 300zx you'll wanna go 300zx. But like themadscientest said, it depends on your personality (what you'll be using it for).

If you're going to buy a skyline and spend the money on import costs, go GTR. You can get one for 12-13K landed in vancouver (CDN obviously). GT-S is 2L single turbo RWD and the GTR is a 2.6L (Inline 6) twin turbo electronic AWD. If you're looking for a daily driving skyline, go GT-S. If you want something to take the the track, go GT-R. Of course you could always buy a GT-S and throw the 2.6 in there and make yourself a drift car (AWD is heavier anyway) although skylines have been said to be a heavy car for that kind of racing/stunts (although I've seen plenty of them do it just fine).

The 300zx is a 3L (V6) twin turbo (or at least most of them out of japan are) and, like you said, you can pick one up for about 7-8K landed, after customs costs and everything. This car, (depending on the year but I assume 91 since I assume you're in Canada) like the skyline, has the HICAS four wheel steering but is a RWD car only. I have not seen too many of these in any drift videos or track videos, though I'm sure they do alright in a track environment. They are heavier than the skyline (even though they are RWD as opposed to the AWD in a skyline) and are a little slower quarter mile wise (stock comparisons obviously).

That being said, I'm importing a GTR early next year and my buddy is picking up a 300zx. I love GT-Rs and plan to take it to the track whereas my buddy is just looking for a sexy ride with a lot of kick (and 300s are definately sexy).

Keep in mind insurance as well (gas is probably gonna be ****ty in both vehicles, but who cares). In BC, a skyline will run you about $1500 a year whereas a 300zx will run you about $2800 a year. This is probably because there is more accident history with the 300zx (as it was a NA release), it has a bigger engine and the skyline has the electronic AWD making it a safer vehicle (haha ya right, maybe on paper).

Another thing you mentioned was upgrade costs. Now, I'm not entirely sure about the 300zx, but the skyline would probably cost you a lot either way since it is a JDM vehicle only. the 300zx was released to USDM, but if you get one from Japan I'm not entirely sure of the compatibility (although I know nothing really and I assume they are pretty much the same vehicles aside from a few things like the right-hand drive).

Let's face it, if you get one of those cars, they are gonna be fast compared to a lot of vehicles today (faster than my current 88 civic anyway lol) but you will probably want to upgrade it at some point. Keep doin your research and use NICO as it is a great resource for information (the guys on here are always really helpful and have some sick rides).

Good luck with your car hunt.

It also depends on if he is talking about an R32 GTS-t or an R33 GTS(25)-t, which are commonly called GTS-t's. For 7K though, I am guessing an R32. The 20 is a potetent little beast for it's size, so don't knock it around too much. Although, I have always wanted a Z, I would still take a Skyline.

Ya, like I said, I don't know a huge amount about the cars yet. I did assume he was from Canada though and we can't get R33's here yet, at least not for 7K.

The Z is too heavy for my taste but that weight and the wider (looking, I haven't measured) track looks better for highway work.

I can't find the specs for the 300zx, although I only tried for like 20 seconds. I'm pretty sure you're right though (300zx is wider than GTR).

i guess they both have their benifits! i think the nice thing about the 300 is that its cheap (well, sort of), fast, and unique (the fairlady is at least!). but the downfalls are its only a two seater, and i looked alot on the web and couldnt find alot of mods for them. so i guess id be pretty much stuck, unless iwanted to spend huge $ on custom mods. the skyline is 4 seater, fast, and Realy upgradable. and i know its only a 2L, but like someone said if the engine ever needed to get rebuilt, id probably just buy an rb25 instead. i think ill probably go with the skyline. it kind of sucks though that it will be so hard to get parts for it. OH, are there any cars realsed in north america that have similar components (like starters etc.), as the skyline. cause i heard that if something simple like that goes, its possible to get the parts here, instead of having to get them imported! thanks for all the help by the way, i was looseing alot of sleep over this! ahhaha,

If you want the Z but with RB power you could ger a ZR200. It was a Z31 with an early version of the RB20 in it. Amazingly it is harder to work on the I-6 than the V-6 in that car.

Ya I was pretty sure that I've seen 2+2 seating in 300zx's from Japan, but I wouldn't want to be sitting in the back.

The back seat is just for show, You couldn't fit an actual human being into it.
