Big job, but well-worth the time.

Get that beast up on some jackstands... Cover your driveway with plastic (painter's dropsheets work good).

You're gonna need some protective clothing, goggles and a crapload of degreaser (I like Purple Power the best).

Rent a pressure washer to do it RIGHT.

Soak with Purple Power, get under there with a plastic scraper and start hitting the heavy stuff. Use a long-handled brush (I like the dishwashing brushes for this), and lots of the cleaning solution.

It's gonna be a long job, but a couple rounds of scraping / scrubbing / pressure washing and you'll have an as-new undercarriage.

Don't forget to get under the hood and rinse from the top down as well.

It's really nice to have a clean undercarriage, easier to spot new leaks!

if your going to do that maybe now would be a good time to spray on some protectant over any bare metal spots to prevent rust

I don't even want to think about how much time I spent under the car. I had front engine seal leak for a while, and it was worse than having transmission leak. Mine looks like this now. I used brake cleaner and it worked pretty good. Small toothbrush helps a lot.

Brake cleaner is the best, but it's expensive and requires you to work "quicker".

Wish I could buy it by the gallon!

Thats one nice looking undercarriage. I hope I can get mine roughly that clean as well. The new parts seem to help aid the eye also

I thank the 1/4" layer of grease in the bay and on everything else for my car being nearly rust free. (battery tray rusted thru and some rust from hatch spoiler)

Very true.

See the frame rails and other exposed areas of the under carraige, Those areas are gonna rust fast in the elements. I would spend another few hours under there with a couple cans of undercoating and repray the entire bottom of the car.

Thanks, but I don't drive this car in rainy day. It hasn't seen rain since 1999. Rust is not a big issue down here.

So true.

I have pressure washed at the drive in car wash before and gotten results similar to this.

You can buy a big drum of it. I bought one a couple years ago for 40$ at Advance Auto/Parts America. I utilize it as a stool to sit on when pondering philosophy in the garage. Maybe I should put it in Super Soakers and have stingy fun with friends.

The very best and easy way is to use GUNK... it comes in a spray can at like pepboys and kragen... all you do is spray the desired cleaning area with a generous amount and let it sit for 10-15 min. then use a bristle brush to give the grime a little persuasion, then wash down with a hose and dry and itll look like new metal!

I'm with the rust prevention guys on this one. Even in Alabama, if I clean the frame rails really well, i.e. remove all the gunk, surface rust shows up. If I leave it greasy, no rust. I like no rust, plus getting all grimy working on the car is fun. it adds to the experience, and friends are less likely to question you about why you didn't show up on time or do whatever it is you were supposed to do.

I sand blasted mine.

Then I sprayed it with two coats of 3M bed liner.

Ever heard of hillbilly under coating? Find a dusty road, loosen your drain plug and gun it. Dust will kick up and the oil spraying underneath will make it stick. Rust free.

Im not saying you should do this.
