I've used every type of oil I can get my hands on. So far I've liked Amsoil the most. Mobil 1 is good but it's a "FULL SYNTHETIC" and when something is classified as Full Synthetic, it only has to be 75% synthetic and the 25% can be petroleum. Amsoils says their oil is 100% synthetic. The only other oil that comes close is probably Royal Purple.

When using a synthetic base oil, when you open up your valve cover, everything is super clean. Compare it with a motor using non-synthetic and you'll notice a HUGE difference.

Currently using Valvoline in my 240 (146k miles) but after I have my other KA project motor rebuilt from bottom up moving to Full Synthetic (Mobil1) oil. Im not fond of Castrol oil for the fact that even new it smells burnt.

The previous owner of my 240 used mobil 1 for about 80k miles and had all the recipts to prove it. I've used Amsoil for another 80k making a total of 160k, For my 80k, I drove it pretty hard. A guy from the forums took my engine after I did my swap and he tore it apart for a rebuild, he later told me it didn't need a rebuild.

I'm the guy with silvia007's old motor. That thing was perfect spotless in the internals. I only rebuilt it for ka-t purposes. It definitely coulda gone to atleast 300k if continuing use of synthetic oil was done. I'm greatful to both owners for their good oil habits.

Ok, all this is good an stuff, but how often do you guys change the oil. There is no point if you change every like 10k miles even if you synthetic. So what are your thoughts guys? Every 3k or less?

I have been using Amsoil products in all of my cars since I started driving and I wouldn't switch to anything else.

Ive used Valvoline DuraBlend for much of the time Ive owned the car... it has a high number of detergents to help clean out nasty crumby deposits.

However it seemed to thicken up considerably by the time it was due for a change (3-3.5k miles). I could actually feel a power difference with new oil cause of it.

Cant go wrong with mobil synthetic... Im currently trying out redline synthetic 10w30 oil... since their gear oil has been nothing short of a miracle inside my trans. its $7 a quart tho... yikes!

well the reason castrol smells burnt is cause they put .03% ash in there to keep the oil viscosity up but i might think about using mobil.any how p00t u should try oil flush every 4 mounths to completly clean out the gunk. and then drain 1lt of oil to rinse out the flush crap. that should make the engine feel a whole lot better. o and i use the magnetic oil plug and o hell ya it works lol. the plug comes out with all the nasty stuff on it every oil change and the oil dosnt come out black it comes out nice and brown. i LOVE new oil in my car expecially when i check the dip stick and see a clear oil drip off of it ..Ooo ya.........! also another tip if u want but helps a butt load ..every oil change if u want. try sticking a crap loads of magnets around the oil filter and then rap it up with duck tape. when its time too change your oil .cut the oil filter in half and find whats floating in your oil.lol works great. and i think they do selll it but im cheap lol.. ill just make one.

OOoo and one more thing for u guys here a lil secret so that u dont have to rebuild your engine and crap ..heehee.. try using (berrymanproducts) <--- the best stuff on the earth ..just plug it to your vacuum line and FLOOR IT . lol and watch all the black stuff fly out of your exhaust untill u see nice white smoke ..this stuff is completey safe for your car.and i use it every oil change and my engine always feels good.www.berrymanproducts.comuse the 123 kit if u can find it at auto zone .this stuff is like gold where i live i can never find the 123 kit ..its allways sold out lol. what it does is it cleans the intake header, intake valves, pistons, exhaust valve, and the inside of your headers and maybe the inside of the exhaust.and after u do the 123 kit then use the b12 fuel supplement this'll keep your fuel tank clean and clean out your fuel injectors.NOTE( this will make your car perform a whole lot better !!!!!)yep all that nasty black buildup u get driving your car hard. O and it makes your car pass smog if u have a smog problem heehee=) its only like 15bucks. just looking out for all u 240 guys out there.!

Which one is the 123 kit? I can't find it on their site.

What about other people? What do you guys think of that stuff? O yea, I also hear seafoam alot on some forums. Not this one, I forget which one, but I do hear it rather often. What is seafoam and does it do anything? All I know is it messes up your spark plugs.

they dont sell the 123kit on the site for some reason but u can find it at your local autozone.sea foam is a detergent that attacks all gunk build in you engine and makes the insides like new. this does mess up the spark plugs so just buy new ones..cmon man its only like $9-$30bucks for spark plugsOoo hey i made a explation topic on how to keep your engine clean its in the ka topic (This is how to clean the insides of your motor to make it like new!!!!) http://www.nicoclub.com/zerothread?id=88014

Yeah, I know it's dino oil but it's great stuff. We put it in everything from the John Deer 4440 to my dads '90 Cadillac. Truck drivers swear by the stuff and we've been using it for the past 15 years or so in everything except my BMW since it needs synthetic.

My dads caddy has about 220,000 miles on its 350 and it still runs strong.

My dad also has a 1980 Mercedes diesel with about 300,000+ miles on the original motor. Runs great but the factory clutch wore out a few miles back. Sad huh? We're predicting a rebuild for it at 500 =).

I use Valvoline Synpower in the BMW. I've been thinking about switching to Mobil1 though.

in the KA i use 15w20 Castrol GTX with purolator filter (after i ran this for quite a while it got rid of smoking at idle)

In my Fwd N/A SR20 i have used mobil 1 with purolator filter since 130,000 miles all up to now 197,000 miles and i couldnt be happier with the results and the clenliness of the motor.

I have used royal purple a few times, it's really good stuff and keeps your motor clean, but pricey, so i stick to the good ole wal-mart 20 dollar 5 quart mobil 1 jug

motor oil doesnt really matter as long as its changed often.

actually buying $1.00-1.25 per bottle oil changing every say 1250-3kmiles is better than keeping the synthetic for 3k. changing with cheaper oil when you see it getting dirty will keep the motor cleaner. besides we're damn racers motors wont last very long either wya with the stress we put in it.

mobil 1, royal purple oil change with filter is about 30-50 bucks each time. and since we race we gotta change it more often,

so lets say in 1 year we dump about 200 in motor oil driving ill say about 4-5 changes at 3k regularly. using cheap oil would be only what 50 bucks a year? in a couple years you could afford another sr block if anything.
