Redline keeps the carbon down...xerexabante wrote:I would not rev and engine that is 14 years old at 6700 rpm at least not over 3 sec anyway.
Big difference between VH and VK series, and almost any other V8. VH is tremendously overengineered and understressed. It can live at redline if properly maintained for a long time and still go 350K.xerexabante wrote:I would not rev and engine that is 14 years old at 6700 rpm at least not over 3 sec anyway.
You are way too late for that. I used to average 120MPH to work and back. Interstate 5 is usually clear for a graveyard shift. 120MPH = 3500RPM not badxerexabante wrote:I would not rev and engine that is 14 years old at 6700 rpm at least not over 3 sec anyway.
I do know my engines! My car and I will do what I do. Let's see you rev your engine 6700rpm for 4 mins.maxnix wrote:Big difference between VH and VK series, and almost any other V8. LOL. I saw one here listed for $1500 95 Q45 pristine. I called the owner and he responded. Wanted to see if it was legit.Jesda wrote:A ten year old car is worth so little, it can't hurt to have fun.
I revved the piss out of my 92 at every opportunity, but stayed on top of belts, pulleys, and especially oil. Its still being driven by someone in California with 230k now.
Sure! Come on down! We might be better off to meet in W Texas.xerexabante wrote:Let's see you rev your engine 6700rpm for 4 mins.
So which is it? Doesn't really matter to a VH45DE. Just have to find the road.xerexabante wrote:I would not rev and engine that is 14 years old at 6700 rpm at least not over 3 sec anyway.
Was this engine ever used in a racing series by Nissan or Infiniti? How did it perform? I think I remember seeing Infiniti doing something for a couple of years with the VH45 (Indy car?).jimbyjimb wrote:My bet is a VH45 can rev much higher than factory spec. That spec isn't for the engine, it's for the transmission input shaft. That little 4.5 is all forged, six bolt mains and DOHC, it can rev it's heart out with no problems......The VH will handle alot more than was spec'd for it. One of the reasons it is such a quality machine.
Yeee haaw, Now that's a party.jimbyjimb wrote:I'd like to see you both rev in unison, a sort of F50/G50 comparison. Maybe chaulk the fronts and do a dual redline burnout like at a redneck car show. Hell, I'd lower my standards and drink a Bud to see that happen. We could even grab a couple cheap hookers for a mudwrestling match. Also refer to every kind of limited slip as a "Posi", cook on an oil barrel converted to a grill and have the Hell's Angels pop in for a quick brawl. My journey toward the Dark Side will be complete...
I thought that's what you wanted though?xerexabante wrote:i will not do the show down with Manix. His proposal was his car reving at 6700rpm for 4 mins.
So Manix when do you want me to come down and witness this? Let me know maybe more people want to see this.
Kiven, 6700? You sure that's not the tires breaking from the road?Kiven422 wrote:On my 94 Q45 I can hear the engine squeal after I pass 6500 RPMs. I'm pretty sure its one of the belts. The belts have been replaced less than 35,000 miles ago (I have all records). The belts are tightly fit and do NOT squeal at all unless I pass 6700 RPM.
I don't know why it does this. The engine needs to be resealed but other than that it is mechanically sound. It has done this since I bought the car 1 year ago.
Any thoughts?
