I am thinking about saving up for a transmission swap for LSD in the spring time. My friends that have a shop said that if it is too big of a job that they will not help at all.

I talked to MAXHOPPER and I think he said that it would take around a whole day. I need to know if this is correct. Also, I need a list of what all I will need to do the swap and if I will need to go to Nissan to purchase or if I can go to advanced or AZ to get most of the parts that I need. Also, how do I get the transmission out, I remember Scott told me that I will need to hoist the engine up, but what about the transmission. Will that come up as well with the engine or can I just take that off underneath the car somehow?

I would like this to be for just a day because this is my daily driver. Also, how much do you think I am looking at spending?

i'll comment. are you swapping your auto for a manual? if so it'll be pretty serious work with cutting a hole in the floor for the clutch pedal, installing a slave cylinder etc...pretty involved. i think there's a write up on vqpower but for the 4th gen - shouldn't be too far off - which specifies all the parts etc. if it's not there check out tatanko's page.dropping the transmission if you have the car up on a hoist isn't too hard but if you have it up on jack stands...not very fun. i swapped a mt into my at fiero a few years back but that was pretty simple - lifted the body off the motor for easy access. you might want to look for someone who will be willing to help you through the whole process because it's not a one person job. good luck though.

I'm just going off memory here, but I believe this should be most everything.

If you are going to swap to LSD you will need a new driver side axle (AZ or Pepboys), 2 axle seals for the new trans (dealer), trans filter (dealer), and trans fluid.

You'll need tools that include 14-21 and 36mm sockets, impact wrench, pry bars, cherry picker, jack stands, and 1 or 2 floor jacks.

Drain trans fluid. Put the car up as high as you can on the jack stands. Remove the air intake, battery and tray, and starter. Remove both wheels, spash shields and axles (passenger side axle will have a support braket on the back side of the block). Use the cherry picker to support the driver side of the engine. Remove the y-pipe from the exhaust manifolds. Remove the front and rear motor mount bolts. Remove the cross member. Use 1 floor jack to support the trans. Remove the inspection cover from the bottom if the engine side of the bell housing. Rotate the flex plate around and remove the four bolts holding it to the torque converter. Remove the trans mount from the trans. Remove most of the bell housing bolts from the trans. Gently lower the floor jack and cherry picker so that the driver side of the motor is slanting down (make sure the trans has room to come out through the bottom). Remove the rest of the bell housing bolts. Use the pry bar to seperate the trans from the engine (be careful removing it, you will probably need two people). Install the new axle seals and filter into the new trans. Be sure the torque converter has fluid in it. Then put it back together the opposite of how you removed it.

Labor book says 7.2 hours. If you've never done one before, add a couple hours.

2 days I am guessing. I am also guessing when you mean cherry picker you mean an engine hoist.
