"Completely sucks" is a very relative term. Compared to what, the high-end optional radios on luxury cars?
I grew up driving cars that had 10W 2-speaker AM/FM radios (not even cassette decks). The changer is light years past that. If you need louder, you're probably going deaf. And about to aggravate it by using louder music.
Even high end optional radios on "luxury cars" suck....OEM's know little about building and tuning a system to get as much sound quality, sound staging, and imaging as possible. And on the same hand, most consumers still think more is better... so if a manufacturer can say "well, our car comes with 11 speakers, 4 amps, and provides 1000 watts of power, so you know we're not playing around!", and now the consumer is duped into believing that more is better. This couldn't be further from the truth, imo. And exactly why I didn't shell out the extra money for the oh so "elite" Rockford Fosgate joke of an audio system factory upgrade.
I'm talking about pure sound quality, not getting it louder... loud is stupid. I prefer to truly listen to music, not just hear it. I'm far from deaf and I want to keep it that way for as long as possible. Thanks for assuming, though.
My plans include a single small SQ-oriented subwoofer, a set of 6.5" component speakers up front in the factory locations, a single amp to power everything, and losing the rear speakers altogether. All through the factory HU and an external signal processor+LOC.
