i just got my second 240sx a coupe today while my vert sits for a bit out of the rain. my question is the car is an auto and the trans slips pretty bad but also it dosent go into od no light or anything. the slip dosent bother me too much it just sucks crusing w/ no od. also the gauge cluster does not light up and no spedo! it is digital with the hud. so does anyone no whats up w/this thing or not anyone know would it be cheaper to rebuild the trans or just get a new one and i heard a pathfinder trans same year will work and its toupher. also when i slow to a stop you can feel it downshift and it wants to die somtimes it idles right around 500 rpm any ideas would be appreciated

Auto transmision = crap

5spd conversion and call it a day.

no why would your vert have a HUD? no vert came with HUD from the factory. check the wiring

no i have a vert but its just siting out because of weather. so i got a coupe i would do a five speed but my girlfriend will be driving this and she cant drive a stick. ima go check fuses does the speedo have a cable or is it a wire for the digital?

no its digital. if anything your speed sensor went bad or i have a frined that the cluster didn;t work we changed the ecu and it work.

allrigt thanks i check out the speed sensor and i have an extra ecu tooi still dont understand why o/d dosent work and the gauge lights dont work either probobly seperate problems.

well i dont know but this worked for my i dont know why but i would click the passanger seat belt in and it would drive fine but i took it off and o/d wouldn't work i dont know but it worked for me.

wierd!!!still no luck and now im getting lost in wiring diagrams to fix the o/d.it seems like the dash lights go through the time controll unit i might as well check the a/t controll unit too.

you cluster and transmision have nothing to do with each other.

if you really want to know hwats wrong with the O/D take it to a transmission shop.

ok i figured out most of it i swiched the od light out of my vert until i can find another and the guy that had it before me reversed the speed sensor wires! so it shifts into o/d now and no hard down shifting the only mystery to me now is to get the gauge lights and the speedo to work. also i did a self diagnostic with the new o/d light and it read a 1 and 3 i cant figure out what that means in my fsm so if anyone knows whats up please school me!

For the speedo they go bad a lot. There's some articles on taking them apart and sodering them to work, but best bet is to swap with a known working one or buy a new one from factory (expensive).

The dash lights (tach, fuel, temp) should work independently of the speedo. Mine even worked with a known bad TCU (AC, radio did not though). So the instrument lights are probably a different issue than the speedo.

ok your right the tach, temp and all the check lights i.e. e brake door ajar- works its just when im driving at night no illumination and the speedo gets no light either. i belive the speedo is getting a speed signal just no illuminatin and i know i should sleep with the scematic at night for good luck but that thing is freekin confusing as hell any ideas?
