I'm just starting this off. I am a percussionist, trained at Towson State University just north of Baltimore MD.

My friend Phil and I have a featured artist band with some of the local bar celebrities (its a little bit of a stretch, but OK to say it that way, ). There is no name as of yet but we are looking at people to help us get one. The previous band name was Kaffeine but we cant use it anymore do to our artist sensibilities and pride

We don't suck and I'll record the performance tonight for everyone to listen to if you care.

Have fun out there tonight kids~

AWESOME! A music forum!

Well, I've been playing guitar for about 7 years now and piano for about 9 years.

Started out playing in a jam band. We played shows at a few places ranging from Bartlesville to Coweta. My music experience and ability improved faster than the band's so I called it quits. I also played in my highschool's jazz band, lots of fun. I was even giving guitar lessons until I finally went to college.

The stuff I play now is mostly related with bands such as GodSpeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky.

Alot of my musical influences come from artist such as Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, and John Petrucci.

Mixing my understanding of classical technique with my love for Post-rock definitely gives me a unique sound.

tulsa_s-13: A G3 fan I see?

Ive played guitar for 6 or 7 years, up until pretty recently i was into the whole metal scene. NOT hardcore, please dont confuse the two.

Over the last year or so ive been getting pretty big back into blues though.

Not currently in a band, but I've been in a few, some serious enough that I've made income from it, but timing isnt really good right now.

I didn't even realize I had listed a G3 line up until you mentioned it! lol

I used to listen to lots of metal. Now the metal I listen to is primarily Dimmu Borgir and Job for a Cowboy.

Bass primarily nowadays,I have myself a 79 fretless Hohner extended scale semi hollow, Fender Mini P body with twin J pickups, owned a Warwick Corvette 6 string extended scale fretless but sold it to buy a 240.

Trained 6 years in Orchestra playing both Viola and Double bass, moved on to guitar didn't feel it and bam stuck with bass.Mostly play Jazz, Funk, Punk, Metal(a few genre's) and my influences include: Brad Wilk, Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Tom Morello, Alec(from LOC), and Geddy Lee.

I have been in a few joke bands but mostly just Jam sessions, its the best excuse to go driving as the closest sound room is about two towns over.

Victor Wooten is one of my favorite bassists. Belafleck owns. Its too bad that NO ONE who isnt a musician knows who Wooten is.

My current band was only formed a few weeks ago, so everything is still tentative. We are working on a concept CD (about what, I cant tell you yet. Maybe I'm paranoid lol) that will have mostly a metal feel, with some other (primarily blues) influences. However, we do not try to stick to any genres. We are making the music we think sounds good.

I am also working on some things solo, where I will play all of the recorded instruments (most likely 2 or 3 guitar tracks, bass, drums, piano, and some jymbees (sp?))

As far as personal influences in my music, there are way too many to list. Here are some, in no particular order:John Petrucci (Dream Theater)Steve Vai (solo)Kirk Hammett (Metallica)Yngvie Malmsteen (solo)Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius)Kerry King (Slayer)Dave Mustaine (Megadeth)Marty Friedman (Cacophony, later Megadeth)Jason Becker (Cacophony, solo)A.J. Minette (The Human Abstract)Luke Hoskin (Protest the Hero)

..and many, many more.

EDIT: forgot to add, I am taking the lead guitar/background vocals role in the group.

I've been playing the guitar since I was about 12. Several years of lessons and I'm still mediocre at best (though the lessons were years and years ago and I don't play a whole lot any more).

I play mostly rock, blues, and classical. Just like Tulsa-S13, I like to mix classical techniques with more modern music--specifically blues-rock.

Personal influences? Early Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Tom Petty, etc.

I also own a violin, but haven't taken any lessons or done much in the way of learning to play it yet.

dont know why i never posted here

drums for 12 years, i like hard fast but prefer to play slower stuff, some of it complex and some just fun to play, a lot of coheed and dream theater (what i can play with half the kit portnoy has anyway), boy sets fire is my favorite band so i play that a lot, some classic rock, some more poppy stuff like brand new and taking back sunday even, depends what im in the mood for when i play, not in a band atm so im not really restricted to any certain sound

dont mind my kit in this picture, REALLY dusty, its way better now, and the kick has a new resonant head too

Old Export kit, Chris?

Nice color.

Got to ask you though. How do you like the moutned floor toms? I have always been kind of scepitcal of them. Seems like a lot of weight to be supported by those posts. I prefer a floor tom with legs for greater adjustment and angle.

yeah its an export, i got the kit used in 1999, i dont think it was too old at that point

came with the mounted floor toms and i have to say i like them more but maybe its just because im used to them

do have to be real careful setting up the stand though so it supports the weight right, you always hear this for every stand but this is the only one ive ever had where if i dont do it right the first time i play them the things fall on me

im going to be getting a new kit sometime in a year or 2, and im considering getting a rack when i do, if not ill probably end up with just legs depending on the brand i get, ive only seen mounted floors a couple other times and it was always pearl kits so i dont know who else does it, and im really looking to get a noble and cooley next...

well have to see
