Welcome! Definitely head over to the 240 section for info on that.
A few words of interest:240's are quite hard to find in decent condition around here, trust me, I looked for months, and while I still wish I had a 240, my Sentra still has less than 50k miles, is pretty new (2001), came with a stiff suspension, LSD, 7-speaker audio, weighs less than a Mini Cooper, outruns/handles an SE-R Spec V (now...)... so on and so forth... 240s, on the other hand, are subject to price gouging because of their HUGE popularity, and, in our area, low supply.
Where in ATL are you, by the way? I'm on the southside in southern Fayette County, between Peachtree City and Fayetteville...
Anyways, back to my words of warning: Another subject of price gouging is the SR you mention swapping. SRs are the hot ticket (I got one stock... but it lacks a turbo and the wrong wheels spin...). That's part of the reason for the sudden increase in people who are doing KA-Ts... (I fully intend that if I do happen to get a 240 project car, it will be the mini-GT-R, that is, a bored out to 2.6 or 2.8 litre KA with a single Disco Potato- Garret GT30RE... if I'm not mistaken). The other reason someone else mentioned is torque. Torque is somewhat lacking below 3000rpm in the SR... with a small turbo, this lack is made up for, but the larger turbos that many people add on to the SR make this problem even worse. I know about the lack of torque well personally, so if you ever doubt that... well... talk to me and other SR owners first. The final problem with an SR swap is that, in the case that you got a Kouki (97-98), you will fail GA emissions testing, period. A pre-1995 vehicle won't fail, nor will a turbo KA (in most instances).
SO, if I were you, I'd be doing a couple things: First, do a lot of research about the 240 and swaps, turbos, etc... a lot of info can be found here on this site by this incredible group of NICOnauts. Second, research another car or two that interest you. Personally, I'd be looking at a 200SX/Sentra SE-R if you want something affordable, fun, and quick, but it all depends on your situation. If you are a new driver, I would push the 200SX/Sentra SE-R (and 98-99 Sentra SE-L/00-01 SE) quite hard because they are incredibly reliable and perfect to get accustomed to the road in... if you're an old fogie and you really don't need the entry into the quick car world, completely disregard that last part.
