whats code 54 ? & fix

i have one code come up on my rb20det - s13 -91

-- now before it was pushing code 51 Ignition circuit and code 21 both the same - now only code 54 code 54 Auto signal to ECU

how do i fix == and what are the effects that this code causes

did u do an auto to manual swap, or was your motor set from an auto car originally? if so, I dont think this code can be fixed, unless you trick the ecu into reading the auto transmission ecu somehow. If you find out how LMK.

never was auto -- -- car just shoots out a grey black smoke-- changed oil -- also have alittle vacuum leak - but the smoke wont stop coming -

Post up your ECU part number, it may be an auto ECU. The auto ECU will run a manual motor fine, but base timing is set differently between the two motors (15 DATDC for manual, 20 DATDC for auto). This could be why your car is running rich also, as the ECU wants to see 20 degrees timing and is only seeing 15 degrees.

now I purchased the ECU from a member on here-drift_ready cuz i thought my ecu was bad- turned out it wasnt - im perty sure its manual-- car was running fine before i took off intake manifold- didnt mess with anything else besides that-- here are the # on ecu23710 04U12Mec r127

quick ? - now i know it doesnt matter auto or manual ecu - but--- i konw the timing is off right-- should i reajust the timing ? if so to whati heard its +5 more for auto -had smoother idle with manual-- could this be Y im running so rich - diffrence in ecu

like i said it could be, but thats not 100% sure. Retime it to 20 degrees and take it for a spin. Give the ECU time to adjust for knock if it senses any, then get on it a few times and see if it runs any leaner.

I had a auto ecu in mine too and timming was set to 20. At 15 car didn't feel right.

ground the auto trans signal wire, set timing to 20 degrees and enjoy.

awsome-- before you checked the timing did you check other things first - let me know --- were u running rich - black smoke fron exhuast - mmlet me knw going to check injectores then do timming if i can find a gunthanks

i mean location of the ground wire - ?

proly could also chip the ecu and fit a manual program and it should forget what it was doing before.

ok - i shortend the MAF plug -- started - kool for a min-- when i unplug the maf - smoke stops- then i plug in almost dies- and smoke begins to come out- does this with both MAFs i have- also When i checked the codes- it sent out 55 all goodthen - started it read code 54 again -lol-- ? on my transmission - i dont have the speedo - not worried abou that- now the other two - i know ones revers lightand other is nutral ? right-now they all go together and is CUt and the end- were a Plug should be- so if some one could tell me which one is the nutral senser and witch were i need to ground-

ok - update-replaced intake manifold gaskets- cleared vaccum leak- now my maf plug is messed up the pin wont stay in-now after i mess with it it works - but only for short period of time , car idles up and down-codes 12, maf21 ingniton curcuit43 throttle postion curcuit - is that the TPS?54- auto signal from ecu

-- only codes that was popping up wer the 54- and 12 everyonce in a while -intercooler piping isnt leaking anymore-when i drive it - i notice a loud sucking sound--- have new maf plug but i just need to figure out how to wire it in - and figure out which plug it is-
