Koni is superior, but more expensive.

Better valving, better life, and they have better quality IMO.

I am assuming you're talking about Koni Yellows.

Also note that the rear Koni's must be removed from the car in order to make adjustments. The AGX's offer adjustability while still on the car.

Front Koni's also require modification of your front OEM strut assembly (IIRC they're inserts)

If I had to do it all over again, I would've done the Koni's instead of the AGX. Not that the KYB's are bad, but I'm running a hard spring and I would've liked the damping better.

Plus you can get Koni's revalved to work w/ any spring rates you choose.

anyone go from the AGX to the Koni and can say why it was better.

I am looking at the RS*R and AGX combo.

I will say absolutely the Koni (yellow/sport) is the best, but has severe consumer issues..namely no notches, rear adj. has to be off the car (sort of) or pay big Koni $$$ to have converted to ext. adjustable...plus the need to modify the stock struts....makes for more downtime.

I remember asking Koni about that when I was thinking of getting them. I can't remember the price they quoted me, but it wasn't cheap. By the time you get some springs like the RSR Race springs and get the Koni Sport shocks re-valved, I'd imagine you'll be somewhere near $1,000.

I'd probably get the Koni's, if not for the fact that they're inserts (PITA install) and the lack of easy adjustability in the rears. Damn, I wish Bilstein made some shocks for the 240SX.

Fuzion: Search on the Koni site for install instructions...if it looks like the install on fronts is too involved for you, then your decision is already made.

If you want your Koni's rebuilt or modified, contact these guys:http://www.tripointengineering.com Don't go directly to Koni.

You are saying the AGX's are too soft?

i personally feel that the stock springs are stiff enough for street use.

i dont know if i or anyone else drives hard enough on the street to overwhelm the stock springs if set up correctly. now, i am talking about a car that is at the stock weigh, stock springs, with koni yellows, bushings, sway bars, t/c rods, strut bars, kosei k1's, and some good tires. that is a darn hot street setup. wont get you the kind of attention a jdm coilover setup will get you, it doesnt bling like a bunch of anodized rods with solid bearing ends, and wont cost too much either. its still darn good for nonautocross and nonroadrace setups.

if you must lower the car...put the stock springs in the auto zone loaner spring compressor and cook them for 10min at 400 degrees untill you get about 3/4 in drop. great, now ditch the a/c, stereo, p/s, and a few other heavy items. perfect. crap, now you wont feel like driving it on the street.

this is the cycle i go through like every week.

no i change my mind about stuff.

1)come up with great plan for maximum performance at minimum price2)tack on a little something that helps a lot but add minimally to the cost3)repeat step 2 untill the cost is rediculous4)get fed up and think about something else.

hahaha you and me both man

As for the KYB's, they are great for about a year, then you wish you had just saved for coilovers. I am running kyb's with my HKS springs, and am having thoughts of custom valved koni's... but like someone said in an earlier post, after get them custom valved, get the rears modified for external adjustment, you are looking at the price of a decent coilover setup. So if you have to go cheap, KYB's won't dissapoint, but if you have the money, just get a good coilover setup.
