hey guys. i want to install my autometer water gauge but want to plan out how im going to install the sender. i did a search for this and it seems that all posts dealt with the SR motors. do any of you have an aftermarket electrical water gauge? if so, what method did you use? did you just tap a new hole into the line? or did you use the blitz upper rad hose or nissan adapter piece? im interested in the latter 2 options since ive never tapped a new thread before and really dont want to risk it on my precious rb- lol...but im curious to see if anyone else has had any experience with using the adapter piece...im thinking i can order the one for the SR right? the sr rad hoses & rb rad hoses are the same size, correct? all thought are appreciated, thanks!!

Go to http://www.splparts. Then go to universal, then hardware and then get the GReddy "coolant hose sensor adaptor" in the plumbing and fitting section. It's pretty easy to install. You just cut about 10mm out of your radiator hose and then install this thing in there. And you wanna make sure to get the 34mm if this is for your 240. That should be the right size.

hey whats up...thanks a million for that site, its great..never knew it even existed. hey you know what else i saw in the hardware section, the 1/8 BSPT female to 1/8 NPT male adapter...could i just use that where the stock temp sensor goes? i mean, because im not using my stock gauge anyway, so the stock sensor is just sitting there...so techinically i could just screw on the adapter & then put on the autometer sender onto that, right? i figure itll be easier than buying the adapter and cutting my hose...or am i missing something? any thoughts?

i installed mine basically right next to the stock sensor. drill and tapped. forget the exact NPT thread.. either 28 or 27. teflon tape it, and you're good to go. dont need to buy anything (other than tap &die- BUT all autometer stuff is the same threading so it should be well worth it). dont go too crazy w/ the tap. just enough so it is a tight fit. npt tapers out.

i did my oil press sender + water temp both in about 10 minutes. takes no time at all

The stock sensor thread is M12x1.25. SPL also has a M12 -> 1/8" BSPT adapter, which is what I used. If you're using an autometer gauge, you need to slightly enlarge the hole in the adapter (don't go into the threaded part) and rethread the sender to 1/8" BSPT with a die

ok, so how about this idea...will this work?

ill put the M12 -> 1/8" BSPT adapter into the stock water temp hole, then screw on the 1/8 NPT female to 1/8 BSPT male adapter onto that...then it will be ready to accept the 1/8 npt autometer sender, correct? anyone see any problems with this? i dont care about spending the extra cash...i just wanted to avoid any more customization if not neccessary (its cuz of a combination of laziness/fear of screwing up- lol)...so think this setup will work ok?

That post above gives you all the options. I can tell you from experience that the hose adapter is probably the easiest way to go. The problem with the adapters is that the tem sensor is supposed to sit in the line so that it can get its reading. If you stack adapters, you may get air in that line which will prevent it from working. You also have the issue of the sensor itself being too wide to fit through the adapters, which means you end up drilling it.

Good luck with whatever you decide. My vote is the hose adapter if you don't want to modify.

I don't like the hose adapter because it is ghetto-looking IMO. The BSPT -> NPT adapter won't work because I think the sender won't fit through the adapter. Rethreading the sender w/ the M12 adapter is the easiest and cleanest way to do it I think. I have had no problems with mine in about a year. The BSPT die is $8 from snap-on. Nothing to it, just thread the sender through it and you're done.

i had defi d series gauges and the threading for the sensor was different than my greddy adaptor so i went with the alternative @

http://www.nissport.com/catalo...issan

they make a similar adaptor and many other parts for nissans. chack them out.

EDIT: saw other link in previous post. nonetheless, nissport have great products.

If the water temp gauge uses the sensor to ground you'll have to run an extra ground wire as well, looks really ghetto but it works, also make sure and put it in the upper hose, if you put it in the lower hose it'll tell you the temp after it leaves the radiator........ Found both of these out from experience
