Hi All, My first post.

I have a 2013 M37s with 5300 miles. I'm giving serious consideration to the Infiniti Elite Extended Warranty as i plan to keep the car (hopefully) for quite some time. I live in Florida and I've called two of the local dealerships and got quotes around $2800 for 7yr/100k with $100 ded. Is this a good price ? It seems a little high to me, considering I have such low mileage. I was expecting something in the $1800 range.

One dealer has even told me that once I go past 6k miles, the price goes up by $1,000. I'm not sure what is significant about 6k miles. Perhaps he was attempting fear-mongering to get me to buy from him.

I spoke to Infiniti Consumer Affairs and they even advised me to try to negotiate the warranty price with the dealers, but none have been willing to play along so far. As a matter of fact, none of the dealers I've called have budged at all on their prices. One place told me some story about how the prices were controlled by the state.

I'd appreciate any feedback on these quotes or suggestions for how/where I can get better prices.

Thanks!

Welcome to Nico!

That seems a bit high. There is a thread in here from other members comparing prices. I believe you can purchase your warranty from any Infiniti dealer and still have coverage in a different state than the dealer you purchased it from. Here is the link:

Hope this helps!

I wouldn't bother. I'm at 100K - with just one wheel bearing issue

Thanks for the Link Larz. I'll try giving those to dealerships a call.

I'm a little bit uneasy with these cars having so many electronics. My last car, the warranty paid for itself. I had $1100 in repairs a week before that plan expired.

I really feel like 2800 is too much though. I've since had multiple Florida dealers confirm that under 6k miles I'm still eligible for the new car warranty. After that, the price goes up quite a bit.

I heard the newer Infiniti are not as tough as the early 00 models. I would buy an extended piece of mind warranty if you're planning on keeping the car well into the 100 mile or 7 year range otherwise forget about it. There are alternative warranties available which are decent. I would visit some non brand specific dealers in the area and obtain information on extended warranties then perform a review search on those warranties. These extended warranties are basically insurance policies.

The way I look at it is this. Your standard free warranty is what 4 years/60k? What you need to do is figure out what could possibly go wrong with the car from 60k to 100k and factor this cost into that plus the added headache of worrying if/when something will go wrong. On the other hand not getting an extended warranty would be a good excuse to get ride of the car at 4year/60k and get something fresh and new. A bit personal here but are you leasing/financing for over 48 months? If yes then buy the extended warranty.
Again $2800 is NOT a lot of money for protecting your longer term investment especially when you have so many electronics as you said. Just check cost of individual parts plus labor.

My hope is to keep the car to 100k. I'm financing so the warranty will be an important part of deciding how long I keep the car. I'm thinking of either 7/100 or 8/100. I agree that in perspective $2800 is not that much, however my expectations were skewed when I saw some of the figures that people had been paying in some of the threads here.

Excellent advise from msvara. If you're financing, they may be willing to also finance the warranty along with the bank note for the car. If so, you will probably only pay about $35 more per month for your peace of mind. You could give up one day a week at the pub, eat at home more often, switch to the FREE internet p0rn, etc and Bob's your uncle! LOL
And you're absolutely right about getting your $2,800 back. Some of the electronics and options on these cars are a bloody fortune if you need to replace things. Think about the cost of a new gear box - I bet the last driver had a heavy foot and spirited shifting and that part alone will pay for the warranty - though I am certainly NOT wishing bad on you - just a thought to consider.

Isn't this something dealers can set on their own? I'll bet they set the cost based on model and year of the car. You could think about doing the following. Don't buy it now. Drive the car for several years and see how reliable it is. You can buy the extended warranty later if you find it unreliable. If it's a lemon get rid of it and you're none the wiser with that $2800 still in pocket. I believe you can buy extended warranty right up until your factory warranty. Call around and ask based on a 2011 m.

I'm glad I didn't pay for an extended warranty. I bought my latest M with almost 100k miles & the dealership was pushing hard to sell the warranty because supposedly all cars blow up after 100k (lol). I haven't had anything unplanned break or wear out. My wallet is $3,500 happier!

Even though you plan on keeping the car a long time, what happens if it's wrecked? Will they refund a portion of the warranty, or transfer it to your replacement car?

The warranty can be cancelled for a full refund anytime during the factory 4yr/60k warranty period. After this period, the refund is prorated based on the elapsed period of time. if the car is a a total loss in a an accident, I get a full refund irrespective of claims or time period.

Regarding the unwillingness to negotiate price by the local dealers. Apparently, auto warranties are heavily regulated in Florida and dealers cannot send in any warranty applicants to Infiniti for Florida residents that are different than the retail price. This is from the literature that a dealer shared with me yesterday.

I think I'm gonna get the warranty, I just have to decide which one.

Drive up to Atlanta and buy the extended warranty. Should be honoured in Florida.
