obviously suspension & diff like yokota pointed out. will make things more enjoyable and allow for crazier handling/predictability, but not totally necessary at first - i.e. there's plenty of guys who can drift on stock suspension & open-differential, not always the prettiest to look at or greatest transitions, but they can still do it.
Best and cheapest thing to do? Sign up for a drift event w/ your current car & get some instructors and feel out how your car is as it sits now. You'll see what other locals are running, how they're doing, get tips, etc.
You could probably even just show up to an event and not drive (but most drift events in Cali don't allow passengers for the most part).
** you'll probably want to buy a few spare rims and put some tires on them for drift days too, you typically go through a couple sets on a full day.
