ok guys here is a simple question. Between a Sr20det, a Ca18det, a Rb20det, and a Ka24de-T, which one would make a better motor for use on a track. which one do you think would make a better motor for say racing down a nice mountain road.

well...any engine would work...just depends on how you make it...an all motor engine tends to be better for autocross cause you dont have to worry about losing traction around a turn when the turbo spools up. I would say The Ka-T would be better for the track cause of torque reasons....and the ca would be the best for autocross cause of the high horsepower and high revs...but hey I could be wrong

I was going to say the same thing about the Ca, due to its higher redline. I was thinking that it would give you more of a powerband to work with.

Yeah i was think about doing that swap, but then i remembered that i am not a noob. Anyways the reason i am asking is because i am trying to decied between these motors. I am not really into drag racing. I have done a fair amount of research on these motors, and i am just wondering what peps think of them.

If you have the time, money, and pacience..turbo the Ka-T....more power, bigger displacement, and when done right it can put out some HUGE power. Thats what Im doing. Otherwise I would just say sr20....im not about small displacement so I would stay away from the ca.... ( i call it the "already Turbo'ed honda motor") . But hey, in the end its all personal prefernece so do what you want!

But is huge power and bigger displacement really make a diffrence? wouldn't a better power band and a high redline be better for a track car?

if you build the motor...then you can extend the redline, which extends the power band as well...then good thing about the KA is that it has alot of low end power already, which would be good for auto-x.

In my opinion, if you are not going to a close ratio transmission then you want the widest power band you can get. That makes the KA-T the best choice. After all I'm not biased. :-)www3.telus.net/kreen

Hmmm which of the motors has the shortest dimentions? Less weight infront of the axle is good.

if you want to just spend the money and have big gains...then turbo the Ka...if you want a reliable turbo motor thats restricted untill you rebuild the motor anyways...then go with the sr20....it all depends on how much power you want.

either way you look at it, you are going to spend the same amount of money for any of these choises on the first step. Its just where you want to go after that first step. If you want more than 225hp, then turbo the ka...if you want a reliable "fast" car that you wont kill yourseslf in, then get an sr20. The Ca is really out of the question unless you built it out alittle bit..like I said, its a turbo'd honda motor. But when you go into building a motor...just build the one you already have (KA) it has bigger displacement and makes more power....

If your talking about which engine is going to break first, it really depends on the tuning you do. I've heard the KA is good til around 300hp on stock internals (if detenation is kept under control), The SR is usually said to start to break around 350hp, and the CA doesn't break until somewhere higher than that.

Ka is good to about 400hp on stock internals...Guy I know is running 14-15psi on stock internals with 350 to the wheels. Has benn fine now for over 6 months. Sr is somewhere around there as well.....Ca has a stronger bottom end, but a weeker head so you never know

i only have one comment, yes the KA has good low end power but after 5600 power drops so it makes little since to turbo it unless you can make the power band expand past 5600. just my opinion

turbo will completely get rid of any power loss, in the upper power band. thats what a turbo does...
