What would make a good work/commuter car for cheap? It has to be super reliable

Heres what I have so far

AE86older sentranx2000Civic hatchford festiva(I hear these are bullitproof)

civic hatch by far easiest to get parts and quite reliable. an ae86 corolla would rock but it is a lot older and usually prone to rust.

civic hatch. or if you wanna separate your self from everyone else with a civic hatch, get a gen2 integra. maybe a little harder to find but they look nice I think.

Civic Hatch no doubt. (Owner's identity protected) has an early 90's SI ran hard, can't shift for nothing, might have changed the oil 4 or 5 times (REALLY), replaced the timing belt once and it didn't damage the head when it broke and it's got over 204K on it, still gets 30+ in city driving. Just now starting to "use" coolant. Can't explain why, I told them, it sat in the cold too much this winter when they wouldn't drive in the snow and ice.

Hands down an un-modded Civic.

definitly a metro, they are cheap, easy as **** to work on and run **** near forever. My exgirlfriend had one with 250k on the original motor and has been sold to 3 other ppl since and is still running around.

Can't believe no one said Vw golf/GTI/jetta yet. They are cheap as Tino's mom and run damm near forever. Admittedly they have gremlins but it's always little cheap stuff, the pricey parts usually last.

I think he wanted a cheap one, ME. I'd say a civic or a metro if you want a cheap car, but if you want to get a new one hands down get a Honda Insight. The civic hybrids are crap, and the prius looks like an echo the got beat with an ugly stick (as if the echo wasn't ugly enough...).

CRX would be my # 1 choice, just because they are relatively entertaining to drive.

Man a CRX is where it is at. I drive mine like a rented mule and she won't die. I got a 160k on it and it still gets upper 20's mpg. She still takes alot of the riced out crap on the roads from light to light.

Get a brand new corolla... :-), they're pretty darn cheap and look nice stock .. just add rims.. or if you really want a car with good mileage get the civic hybrid.... or the prius.

I Had an old Corrolla for many years, and traded it on my 240sx. Car was dependable, reliable, good on gas. I'd still put S-13 as #1, Corrolla #2, CRX #3.

hands down, a 1993 sentra xe. my friend has one that we only just managed to quasi-kill. it took 140k miles, all while driving the bloody hell out of it (shifting at the fuel cut, racing things impossible to beat (s2000, evo VIII, rwd sbc powered civics, etc.), hand brake u-turns at 60mph, many a autocross, tires and wheels from a race car -those were damn sticky! poked out about 2 inches from the body- extended 120mph runs, and finally killed it when we went mudding for the 3rd time in a week). in no way do i advocate this kind of driving, i mainly watched, and it still runs, it just has a bent valve or two....or 16...were gonna drop in a new engine as soon as he gets back from wisconsin (passed up a s2000 because he loves the car so much).

:Werd of friend of mine had an '89 si that he maintained strictly, and could easily do 30mpg, unless he was trying to be Mr. GoKart racer. The engine was completely factory except for an already installed CAI, and the suspension was Eibach prokit with tokicos, energy suspension master kit, and that was it. A real blast to drive, the only problem is the thieves who follow you around to see where you park it. As for slow, this would only matter on a track, because if you have a good running unit, a CRX can outhandle most cars on the road, and you can bury the needle well past 125 and it'll keep pulling. Nobody had the nerve, or stupidity, to try and keep up.

:( Making me miss my 91 si. see sig.

The 90-91 si's were the only crx with factory disc brakes. It's insane how quick those suckers can stop. I used to brake-check people all the time. :-x
