hey everyone i'm new here but i figured i'd share a little info for anyone looking to buy a 240sx. i'm 14 1/2 (one year till temps in ohio) and i've been saving up for a car for about a year or so and i found something to spend my money on that i've earned working as a clerk at my dad's convenient store in a little drunk town :alcoholic near where i live. after reading the sport compact car feature about their 240sx-silvia swap i found what i wanted to have for my first car. i'd been looking for a swap-worthy S13 for about 2 or 3 months. on the way to the local murray's auto parts there's a stretch of road with used car dealerships every way you look. whenever i would pass a dealership i would look for a 240sx (i was looking for a manual hatch) and one day i found a coupe (not exactly what i was looking for but it was manual) sitting in the back lot of a dealership. i could only see the back but i could tell that it was a 240sx coupe. on the way back we stopped to look at it and we noticed that there was no driver side window and half the driver's seat was missing. i'm told the previous owner needed those parts for his other 240, which he bought after busting a rod in half in this one (i'll have pics of what over-revving can do to an engine up soon). i was planning on doin a sr20 swap so this didn't matter to me. we wrote down the phone # for the dealership and called them the next day. the dealer said that the guy who owned it before must have watched "the fast and the furious" a few too many times and he beat the crap out of this car. we noticed that he must not have had it long because the temporary tags only ran out about 3 weeks before we looked at the car. after a few minutes of talking my dad tells me to guess how much the dealer is askin for the car. we were gonna offer him about $600 so i was hoping it was around that and my dad told me the dealer said "$200 and i'll tow it to your door." within 2 days i bought the car and within 4 it was in my driveway. i just figured i'd show everyone out there that's lookin for a 240 or any specific used car that if you look close and often enough you might find what you're looking for, maybe for even cheaper than what you expected to pay. i'm still debating whether or not i want to keep this coupe for my silvia swap or if i want to go with my other, more expensive options of fixing this car, selling it, and getting a fastback to drop an SR into and turn into a sileighty or strawberry-face 180sx (more $$$ but IMO it looks better than silvia, 180sx, or sileighty). oh, and daunttless, how much are your S13 front clips (with silvia body panels if you have 'em)?

Nice find you got there, a perfect project car. Daunttless does not sell front clips, just complete engines. Also I'm sorry to say that ever since that SCC article came out, the demand went way up for engines. Your not gonna find front clips for 1500 like they did in the article :( I wish it was still like that, but damn the American capitalists!

ok thanks. i've found that i won't find a front clip for $1500 but i wasn't sure if it was because demand went up or if SCC got a special price. does anyone know of anywhere that has silvia body panels? i've emailed Venus Auto and TP Automotive (TP seems way more helpful) but neither of them carry body panels. Scott at TP said he could get me a full front end including body panels, lights, dashboard, a/c control units, pedal, with complete interior (hopefully it would have the seats) for $3500 so i might go with that. thanks for the info

Yeah that's what TPA calls their RHD conversion. Full front clip with interior. I was going to do that until I met Daunttless :) However if you do that thing from TPA it requires a $2000 down deposit before they even place their order in japan, and they estimate it will take 45 days to get a sastisfactory clip once they find one.

yeah that's what they told me in the email. i have about 355 days before i even get my temps though so the 45 days wouldn't be that bad. but i'm still debating whether i want to keep the coupe or fix it and sell it to get a hatch.

I must admit....You got one hell of a deal...

I got mines for $350 and it was an 89 w/o a front end...but I got a 93 front end for $500 complete...I think I got a good deal, but yours was kickass...I think you should keep the coupe. I was looking for a coupe but I came accross a fastback and I couldnt refuse....Stock to stock coparison, I think the coupe looks way way way better.....but if both are fixed up, I would take the fastback over the coupe anyday...

The coupe is also more structurally integral because of the extra metal between the 2 struts behind the back seat. something a hardcore drifter might find useful.

Oh, also, even when SCC got that front clip, it was a special price. : ) Even then they didn't sell that cheap, but now they most definitely don't. : )

Enjoy your day!
