hello everybody! hows everyone been doing? well its finally warm enough here in alaska to start working on the Q again so i can finally get it on the road. hopefuly!! im in the process of scouting for a TCU for my basemodel 1993 Q.

what i need to know is will all 90-93 TCU's work in my car as long as it'snot from a Q that has TCS? I also want to know what year were thefirst gear start TCU's used? and if not used in my 93 can i use a firstgear start TCU in my 93 without modifications?

I would appreciate any help or suggestions from someone who knows.

thank you very much, subzero

Any TCU from a 93-95 Q45 will work... 94 and 95 TCU's arent the best fit but they work PERFECT if you have a modified ECU with higher redline... it will work perfect just at the redline it will hold the shift for a split second... If you have a 93 you should have 1st gear start!!!

Yeah, you can use a pre 1993 TCU, but at no gain.

Select 2 for 2nd gear start.

Thank you for the compliments . It was because of the color combination that I bought the car. Chances are I would never have bought a Q if it were in any other color. No disrespect to all you guys, I just meant that the car stood out so much when I saw it and that what made me want to buy it.

When I do sell the car I'll be sure to let you know first. I told you that I would and I still stand by that. But first, I sill have spend a little more money and make this car right.

I really don't know where to get some white door panels. I know that in Canada I've never seen a white interior. Best bet would be through one of our fellow members here that may have seen one in a salvage yard like a pick-n-pull.

Don't forget to get back to me with your TCU number later when you get a chance.

so you're saying the 94-95 tcu is a better choice for a 90-92 q with an extended redline than a 93 tcu?

If you can't get the JWT TCU. then the later TCU mated to the earlier lower 1st and 2nd gear ratios is kind of a kluge compromise. Won't help you a whit i 3rd, but you probably won't care either when you are near redline.

so the jwt is the superior choice? and how would the 4.11 skyline differential factor in? my understanding of how these things work together is admittedly sub-par.

what i would like to accomplish is more low end pep and getting rid of that 3rd gear lag would be excellent. i'm not looking for strip times or anything, just increased drivability.

ECU will probably help out the most, or its a good start..

NICO ECU + 94 TCU is a great and economical solution for 90-92 Q owners..!

please elaborate.

honestly, i allready have the differential and the first gear start is a must (whether 93 or 94+) so those are of main concern to me.
