the 1986 Corolla GTS over here was the same model they used in Initial D.as Daunttless said the '85-'87's were the only year they produced the "AE86" in the US. The body style varies slightly between '85 and '86 I know for sure, and the 1986 is a complete hatchback with the popup lights like you are asking about.

85-87 corolla gts or a corolla sr-5 to gts conversion. also the ae86 in initial d is a trueno...or is it levin.

wasnt the trueno a little better too? it had the DOHC engine and the levin had a SOHC engine. or was that just the AE85 with the SOHC and the AE86 with the DOHC

The go cam in the levin and the trueno, the roku came in the levin and the trueno, just depends on the trim. : ) The non-gts are go's. : )

The car in Initial D driven by Takumi is a 86 Corolla GT-S DOHC (Trueno). Trueno is just the name given to the models with pop-up lights, and Levin is for cars with fixed headlamps. Anything else is exactly the same including trims, wings, etc... They give the name Hachi-Go to JDM Spec models carrying a 1.3L SOHC and Hachi-Roku to JDM Spec models carrying a 1.3L DOHC equipped with LSD, 6 spd and anti-roll bars (GT-S models). In the US, I think all Corolla GT-S are DOHC 1.6L beasts with LSD, but SR-5s are jut slow from reading about its specs from other people....

the SR-5's over here are equivalent to the hachi-go's, they have the sohc engine and no lsd. other wise you repeated everything we already said.

the sr5 over here actually isn't an ae85, technically it's still an ae86, but it comes with a different engine (4ac?) amongst other things...it is the lower model though.

I'm pretty sure the truenos and levins have the same engine as the corolla gts...the 1.6L DOHC, and it was a 5 spd...I think the lsd was an option for the gt-s too.

read through the reference section on http://www.club4ag.com for more info on the car...and don't mention initial d if you post on any of the forums there :)

Quote »the sr5 over here actually isn't an ae85, technically it's still an ae86
i didnt say the sr5 was an ae85, and its technically NOT an ae86 because it had no lsd and a different engine, it only has an ae86 bodystyle.Quote »I'm pretty sure the truenos and levins have the same engine as the corolla gts...the 1.6L DOHC, and it was a 5 spd...I think the lsd was an option for the gt-s too.
treunos and levins are the same, just different front ends cuz of the popup/fixed headlight option. Yeah i didnt say it was a 6 sp, but i agree i dont think they are...kinda pointless to put a 6 speed in a car with that power, and especially for a car so old. i think all the gt-s over here got the lsd, cuz they are exaclty the same as the jdm treuno.

Yeah, I wasn't referring specifically to your post...it's just the one I happened to reply to :)Just trying to correct things as much as I could...the sr5 IS an AE86 though, whether it has lsd or not 'AE86' just refers to the engine and the chassis code, so it's an 'E86' chassis with some generation of the 'A' engine in it...I don't remember if all GT-S came with lsd or not, I thought I'd seen some post on the forum from guys with a GT-S who didn't have the ls...<checks club4ag>...looks like lsd didn't necessarily come in the GT-S model, here's a couple direct links from club4ag illustrating differences between the GT-S an SR5 (and the japanese engine models)http://club4ag.com/faq%20and%2...t.htmh ... %2....html
