90-92 with sodium filled exhaust valves is said to be good for 295-305hp.

[rumor]For years, there was a gentlemans agreement to not export any passenger car from Japan rated at over 300hp.[/rumor]

My humble opinion Unless you're just IN LOVE with your car, look at one of the ones being sold, and just drop the $2 the motor swap would cost into one of them.

I do love my car. Wife asked me if i was going to finally buy a 540i that i have always covited. My car has thousands of $$$ into its better than stock everything that i rather drop a couple of g's into it and grove on. Always said it would be mu sonsfirst ride and he will be 3 in december.Cant wait till it applies for classic insurance 15 more years.I always knew i would eventally blow the motor. Not the first but hopefully the last.

Here's a dyno on a '92 Q with 145k rated at 298hp flywheel (after est. 22% drivetrain loss):

I don't want to be a dumbass and assume things but its might be some evidence that the rumor of 295hp-305hp on earlier model years is true.

Estimated Fly Wheel Horsepower: 298 @ 5530 rpms [assuming 22 % drivetrain loss]Estimated Fly Wheel Torque: 317 @ 4800 rpms [assuming 22 % drivetrain loss]

not bad......
