What year is my SR?

I have a Sr S13 blacktop that I'm rebuilding. How do I find out exactly what year the engine is?

Has my understanding its 95-up its black top.Since my SR came out of a 93 and my friend SR came out of a 94 and both of us has Red Tops! And The Oldest Black top I have seen is a 95!

They build S13 Along side the S14! Because the S14 in Japan did not sale well!

the s13 blacktop was introduced in 94(180sx) and stopped in 98 along side the 180.

Yep 180's first came with the Ca18det. Later they threw the blacktop S13 sr under da hood.

It was CA then red Top, then Red Top 2nd Gen (most noticeable is the fins on the head to help cooling and some other stuff, but you get the point) and then Black top!

to determine what PFC you will need post the Letters on your ECU.. "early blacktops" in regards to the PFC are the e5 ecus these ran from 94-96.. the "later s13 sr20det blacktop" will be J4 commonly found in the type x 180s or from 97-98.. redtops and early s13 blacktops share the same pinout at the ecu so they can use the same power fc from my understanding..

I have a 98 Type X s13 blacktop. it's not nearly as easy to find a used pfc/ecu for it
