what year is my ka24de??

I am trying to figure out what year my ka24de is. I got my car and engine from a guy who didnt know what he was doing...the motor was in pieces when i got it and in one of the boxes was an ecu. I assumed that it went with the motor but now I am questioning that, because...i have everything together and in the car, but it wont start! Its getting gas, spark, is in proper time, and has good compression, but for some reason...i got nothing. Now Im trying to make sure that the ecu and engine were the same? So is there any visual descrepancies between the s13 and s14 ka24de motor?? Or is there a way to tell what year my ka is??

check the distributor...if it has a middle wire, which is the coil, i think those are the s13, im pretty sure the s14's have an internal coil

s14 valve covers have 2 bolts on top and s13s have 3
