in the market for a 240sx fastback, just wanted to know what year was the best for the 240. Which was the lightest, had the most power, etc. Please help me out.

Any 240 after 1990 will be fine if you want "more power"

Agreed.89-90 had single cam, 91+ have dual cam. More power and the timing chain is *less* of an issue. In case you didn't know, 93 was the last year hatches were produced. 94 was only convertables and after that only coupes. There were also coupes made during 89-93. Good luck finding one

89-90 140HP SOHC91-94 155HP DOHC94= convert onlySE- got power windows and cruise control.

the hatch is like a 100lbs heavier than the coupe

I dont believe much of anything really changed on them execpt between 90 and 91 and that was the engine

'91 DOHC has a slightly hotter exhaust cam than other years IIRC. Not a huge difference, just somewhat better response.

the abs system on the 240 is too ancient its not really good and the hicas is just .... probably better to just get a 240 and pick up a vlsd or something i do have a hicas model 240 in my backyard though

so true. 240s have the "old" ABS. If any tire locks, it pulses all 4. Depends on personal preference if it is worth it or not. Of course the insurance company probably doesn't care how the ABS works when they award you a discount... (of course my insurance thinks my car has ABS We messed up when transfering/registering the car from out of state.) Wether to look for HICAS or not depends on what you want the car for. high speed grip cornering, it could help. Drifting, it could be a problem.

Actually, according to http://driftkat.com/Nissan240SXIndex.php the difference in curb weights between coupe and fastback is only 31lbs.

well it's all on prefference I say .. at first when i got my 90 2 yrs ago, i didnt pay attention to the engine .. then i realized taht 91-94 had the DOHC. I thought it was all the same .. I admit it .. I wanted the car but didnt know anything about it unlike now. But in the long run .. I'm happy with my car. Reason is because I learned that 89 and 90 there were only two models of the 240SX .. the XE coupe and the SE fastback. The Base and LE didn't come out till 91. Back then, it was all options with the Zenki. Technically by Nissan, I have the Power Convenience Group Package meaning .. all power everything, cruise control, and a rear wiper, no sunroof, and no front lip. The sunroof can be a problem with a 10 - 16yr old car in terms of leaking and for racing the flex. It had everything i was looking for. I already swapped my pig nose for a chuki ($10 from a fellow IFXer including the sides) and the DOHC is on way .. gonna pick up an S14 with 60K for 200 from another friend with all needed from yet another friend.

It's up to you and good luck with ur choice.
