Over the winter I really want to redo my CA, but go all out this time. I rebuilt it last year and when I did that, everything was just fine and dandy but little things started going, so this is where I'm at now. Blown turbo (upgrading to a GTi_R), boring out the block 1mm to make it a 1.9L (any other suggestions towards boring would be appreciated), HKS headgasket (what size should I get? Also, if the block is bored, do they offer options for this or will i have to mod it?). I also want to get higher compression/forged pistons. Maybe something along the lines of 8.5 or 9.0:1 with the T28@1 bar. Any suggestions on this as well? While in there, Ive had the head ported and polished last year, but should I upgrade anything in the head while I have it off? Im planning on throwing in some 270 cams, so I figure I should need an upgrade somewhere. Next, what about the intake? Ive got the KA24E throttle body on it already and bored the intake to fit it nicely.

I guess what Im trying to say is, I want to build a monster over the winter, but I want it so that once it's upgraded, I don't want to upgrade it anymore. Once this project is done Im going to stop spending my money on this car (except for regular maintanence) and continue saving up for a house.

If anyone has any suggestions on increasing the torque, please let me know.

270 duration cams are huge. what lift? youll probably be looking at some new valve springs and some solid lifters.

also, can i ask why you are wanting to increase displacement when youll just be running a t28 at 15psi? it doesnt seem like its necessary.

the stock HG is 1.2mm. it will give you stock compression with 8.5:1 pistons, so you would want to go with more than that if you plan to bump the ratio up a little.

The cams I saw were 270's with an 8.5 lift I believe. I was thinking of running jun solid lifters as well but never really thought about new springs. I want to increase displacement because that will open a new world to me. I will kinda be forced to get new pistons and build it up from there. If you knew me, I don't get things done unless im forced to (sort of speak). I want to get as much power out of this engine and tinker around with some new things. I want to build this engine up in one shot over the winter. This means that once the winter is over and all the new parts are in, I wont be touching this engine again. No thinking "hmmmm. I really should have bored it out. Or done this, or done that". I want to 'finish' the project so I can save my money on other 'projects'.

Thanks for the info on the headgasket. I now just need to find a place that will offer these products at a good price =).
