local seller has a blacktop motor and trans w/ unknown mileage, cut harness, low compression in one cyl, turbo seems okay w/ no play in shaft, new injectors, plugs, coil packs, says it drove but that doesnt mean much to me.

my question is how much would you guys comfortably spend on a blacktop that you were going to use as the basis for a rebuild?

sorry if this is a newb question, i promise i tried searching and couldnt come up with anything but "where did you get your sr20?" or "should i go turbo on my ka or swap." no answers to this question i could find.

What's low compression...within 10% or LOW, like needs a rebuild. If it's the latter, I'd pay 500-600. If its the former, 900-1000.

no idea. never thought i would be buying an sr but i found this deal and i thought if i could get it from him cheap it might be worth it. i have all the time in the world to work on it if i buy it so i would be reading up for weeks before doing anything.

edit: the guy bought the thing off of ebay with no ecu, cut harness, possibly some problems. i would be buying it as a project to work on, get running properly, and maybe resell or put it in my car. im calling him and offering $750 straight up cash. if he doesnt take it, im not really out anything.

if you guys are local and would like to try him, hit me up and ill shoot you the for sale page so you can contact him yourself.

i called him and basically broke it down:

engine w/ unknown mileage, unknown condition, bad compression in cyl #4?, cut harness, ECU IS included apparently, no pullies, no shifter for transmission... i told him that it wasnt worth what he was asking, and i would offer him $800 in cash because the ecu is with the engine. he says he absolutely cannot go any lower than $1,200.

i asked him why and his response was, "i spent a lot of money and bought this off of ebay, i didnt know it had bad compression etc..."

i said im sorry he spent that money but that doesnt justify his high asking price. i told him if he managed to dupe someone into spending that much money for something needing that much work and missing parts, he was ripping them off.

ive seen perfectly good sr20s with shop warranties go for only a couple hundred more.

Totally not worth it. Period.

I wouldn't have even offered $800 to be honest.

how are you getting 200psi compression from a sr?? Isn't factory compression around 150ish? I can't remember the exact number in the fsm.

I agree with everyone else, totally not even worth your time to go look at it. Too much missing parts and bad motor.

Stock max cyl. pressure should be 165 psi and minimum should be 126 psi when warm on s13 sr20det.
