Ok, lets say that you have $5k to spend only on your Q45. And you can Only spend it on Internal engine modifications.

What would you buy/do?

And please do not bring up the whole Forced Induction crap, I know that you can get a supercharger kit for $5k or less.

Also, what internal engine mods would you do with $10k? Please answer the $5k and $10k seperately.

After addressing any KS/o2's etc (before the $5k, cause that's not internal), I'd look for some sodium filled valves or maybe titanium, then something along the lines of pistons. Either to raise compression or with a better burn design. You can get higher compression and dish the piston at the same time, assuming the head will allow for a taller "shoulder" piston. This would allow for some adjustments to the timing, or lower the risk of detonation with the high compression.

That's probably the $5k answer.

I would get lower compression, with beefier rings and better rods and crankshaft, so i can safely run 12-15 PSI of boost.....

However, if I had to do only internal mods and nothing else.....

I suppose a stroker kit would do, as well as indvidual TB's like the M5.....

How can you get lower compression out of a 96-05 Q with just that?

I'd make a special cold air ac unit to feed into the intake. Why not?

The Q has to have room for improvement in the intake and exhaust areas. It has been proven time and time again. This $5k is assuming the engine is already at a 100%? Well in that case a custom cold air intake system. With custom headers, custom exhaust.

The heads (as per Q45tech) are one of the biggest restricitons as the design does not allow for any more air flow that what is already allowed by the 90mm throttle body intake system. Switch the heads to allow more air flow and I think that would seriously wake up the motor. The switching of the heads are the only "true" internal mod that I can think of.

I'd stroke it.

More low-end torque. Shoot for about 500 ft-lb.

Maybe adapt a 5 speed automatic.

Possibly swap a 2005 5.6 Titan/QX56 engine & transmission.

Even dennis said that 5.6 swap could be doable in the Q.....

$5k? Deck out the interior with an all-suede dash, a PS2 and a bunch of useless but neat video screens, throw on some chrome 17s and the quietest highway tires on earth, limo tint.

$10k? Down payment on a Cadillac CTS or 04 M45. Now THATS what I call a mod!

I would get a Type R exhaust and an A.E.M. intake. Maybe some NAAWWWSS, probably a 3 foot wing.............J/K

I think I would probably tear into the trans and rear end before I did anything to the motor. A set of gears, trans rebuild with a healthy stall converter. I would also get a tuned PCM, Larger throttlebody. I would also do some exhaust work, polish the heads and intake plenum. After that, I think I would be out of money.
