my dad found an sr20 on a website for $1500I dunno how much it would cost to get that installed, so I'm gunna say $2000 for the motor and some place to do it. but I don't really want an sr20 that bad. I'd rather stick with my ka24e so I can brag to my friend about how I have nearly a half liter over his prelude. instead of spending $2k on an sr, I'd could take the money and get...lsd from a junkyard: $250custom intake w/ k&n: $65hotshot header: $400front and rear strut bars off ebay: $50some universal muffler: $100custom exuast pipes: $200momo wheel off ebay:$200slotted rotors front and rear: $300rebuild callipers: $80that all comes to $1645

what would yall do in this scenario?

$1600 Sounds to me like too much money to spend on:

1.) 15 (maybe) more horsepower2.) more noise3.) a LITTLE bit stiffer suspension4.) not much more braking help

Hey Jerome, do you have an SR in yours? I like the silvia conversion (looks bada*s in white) that you did to your car.

Um.. a KA24 has .2 liters over a Prelude. Not half. Unless he has an old (pre 92) prelude.

Well, since no one else has mentioned it, I'd also go for the SR20, but I'd also recommend the following:

ASK if the SR comes with an uncut harness, ECU, power steering lines (you'll need those in your 1990, because the lines switched sides of the car with the 1991+ years, and the SR20 engine), etc . . . you'll need all of those things (well, I guess power steering is optional, and you could rework the KA harness/ECU, IIRC, but it'll save you a whole lot of trouble just getting the SR20 parts). If not included with the engine, and I would assume that it is not, these parts will easily run you more than the $500 you think it will cost to have the engine installed. If you still have the money with all of that taken into account, DO IT, by all means. :-)

But, if the money would be an issue at that point, I'd recommend fixing your car before anything else. I don't know if you are exaggerating in your sig, but if your transmission needs work, and your clutch is almost gone, those would be 2 areas I would spend money on. You could get a transmission out of a junker 240 cheap, and clutches aren't bad to do at all if you have either the transmission or the engine out. But I would never add power to a car if the car itself wasn't running right as is. Just my 2 cents . . . (well, lessthanjakejohn also said this, but I was more descriptive ;-)). Then, and only then, take the rest of the money, and fix your car up.

No. She still has the stock KA24DE which is about to be putting 350 rwhp, and 350 tq (hopefully) to the wheels : )

Who gives a flying crap how big your motor is? That means absolutely d*ck. With the mods you listed, you MIGHT run a high 15, with a SOHC. If its a newer VTEC prelude, he'll beat you. If you got the sr, you'll run a mid-high 14, and you'll beat him EVERY time. Not to mention you'll be able to say "I have a turbo."

get the sr20. the ka24E is a pig of an engine, Im glad i have a DE... "it cant be too hard" ...obviously you havent installed one. Its not easy, by any means. Sometimes things dont just "bolt up" , if it takes guys that have done swaps 5+ times over 3 days to do it, and they talk about little problems with it, its not "easy".-chet

I slept on it, and I'll go with the sr. yes, my friend does have the older prelude. about the transmission, it makes a loud whining noise in first, and it's kinda there in second. probably the syncro's. about the clutch, when the car is cold it doens't dissengage all the way, so the gears clash if I don't rev match.
