Your truck, your baby, your daily driver, your whole world was at a shop for twelve weeks and counting with NOTHING being done? It's been three months now and not shizah has happened! He even has the necessary parts in his shop and has had them for a few weeks now. He's also told me for the third consecutive week that he'll be done by Friday, with nothing changing. What do I do?

Have it towed to:A: My house and repair it myself.B: Another, more responsible shop.depending on how severe the problem is. If these guys are THIS irresponsible with their business relations, how good a job do you think they'll do repairing your truck? If they special ordered parts for the repair, let them bite the cost of it, they should be fixing your truck. Don't pay them squat, take your business elsewhere.

Just recently I had a quote of over $400 to do a water pump, I told 'em thanks but no thanks and had it towed home so I can do it myself.

Well, it was at my house, but due to high school and a crappy minimum wage job I haven't been able to do the work myself. Also, I'm the one who ordered the parts and had them delivered to him. He built a custom shift knob for me, which turned out great and was built in a reasonable amount of time, so I figured I could trust him. Also, he's had over 20 years of experience with Nissan trucks, and his dad has had well over 40 years of experience with them. I had no idea he would be this irresponsible with my truck.

Is he doing this as a favor for you or have you worked out a payment arrangement?

I'm paying him cash when he gets done, if he ever does.

Does he know that you have the cash in hand?

Yeah, I told him that day one. He asked me how I was going to pay for it and I said cash, all at once, when he gets done. I've had the cash for a while now.

Talk to him once more. Ask him when he expects to have your truck done. If he gives you a concrete answer, like this Friday or next Wednesday and your good with that, tell him okay, but if it isn't done by then that you'll have to take it some place else. Don't get mad or make threats, just tell him straight up what you plan to do if he doesn't hold up his end of the deal.

Thanks for the advice. He's said it'll be done by Friday for a few weeks now, and nothing has changed. The only problem is I'd have to get it towed to somewhere else.

I know he's been promising, but this time you need to make it clear to him that you expect him to do it and that if he doesn't you will have to make other arrangements.

Getting it towed is a hassle I know. Start looking around tomorrow for someone else to do the work for you. When you find someone, ask if they can retrieve the truck for you.

Alright, thank you! This is my first time dealing with a mechanic, mainly due to the fact that I'm 17 and me and my dad are DIY-ers (and stubborn).

I don't mind doing the work, and I'd prefer to have it that way, but I just don't have the time. It may come down to that though, it'd just take a while to get it done.

New tie rod ends and couplers, bleeding the brakes, and a new centerlink. I know how to do it all, I just don't have time.

I've got the money and he's got the parts, just need time. I've been bustin' my butt at work to get the money for it, and things haven't slowed up any. Hopefully I'll get a few days off soon so I can head down there, get it, and do it myself.

Thanks guys. Yet another week of let down. He says his mechanic disappeared, got a speeding ticket in his truck, then just quit and he's had to deal with that mess. He also says he's had to do a lot of the work on the cars in the shop on his own. Only one problem: I know of six other mechanics that work for him and there are only five other cars at his shop, three of which are for sale.

Time to move out. No argument, no cussing or anything like that. Go and tell him you're getting help and move the truck. Mine is still at the mechanic after 5 months but there is a difference with us. I was the one who's keeping him back from finishing. We're at the point now of starting but no signal at the injectors.

Just an update, I guess. Still no word from him, and by the end of the week I'm going down there with a truck and trailer and picking it up myself. This has gotten way out of hand, and I shouldn't have let it drag out this far.

Take the truck to another shop for repair. If he keeps blowing it off for better paying jobs then it's obvious he's not interested in your business.

I moved mine to an electrician. Got it started and carried it back to him for tuning. Lets see how it now takes.

This is 85NIS720, I had to create a new name (this one). Well, I finally got my truck back and he has closed down his shop. Now time for the front end overhaul.
