i am getting pistons but i was thinking not to get rods because they could already stand up to 650+, i am also getting piston rings, performance bearings and a high flow oil pump

you can easily make 600hp with a good set of pistons and piston rings and a stock bottom end. New stock bearings and a new stock oil pump are good.

You don't even need all that, but with that you'll be fine. Over kill in those areas is gravy on the rice.

So what kinda pistons and rings specifically are we talking about that should push 600hp? Trying to narrow my own selection for when I rebuild.Whats the best to look for?

Personally for price/quality I like Wiseco Pistons. You can get custom to basically any spec from them and they sell rings as well.

im pretty sure companies like AMZ, Z1, SGP, etc stock pistons set from Wiseco, they used to be prone to piston slapping but a couple of companies worked with them and everyone has been utterly happy with them...its a great testiment that company is willing to work out such problems while other may not care.

People have made over 600HP on a fully stock engine.

ya, but not all. I'd say 500 you would be pushing and 600 you should replace.

Stock pistons normally fail after 450hp.

Where do you get your info that can back up that claim? I personally know otherwise and not just by one or two occasions. Explain yourself.

If you avoid detonation you can make 600 whp with a completly stock bottom end. Detonation will wipe out the rod bearings before the pistons on this motor.

^ Very correct, as I've seen with 2 KA-t's.

Rods and pistons were flawless, rod bearings were completely mangled.

So lets say I wanna drop some new pistons and cams in to add a nice plaform to work off off. I know how to go about the basic install with just swapping the cams out and putting new pistons on the rods, but when I have everything reassembled, how do I time and make sure she will run without clanking metal. Been researching a long time and kinda want to move things along, so whats all involved?

FSM check everything 3 times... If it doesn't seem right then it probably isn't it.
