what would happen if.....
you buy it.did the modificationsswapped in a complete set up from something like an infinite g35 ( since also called a skyline )...like every part of it. and just get a custom drive shaft or something so you can use the rear and everything
would it then pass???
would it then be drivable?
then after you get it federalized.... swap in a rb or something and sell the old set up? or just keep the g35 set up
Let me see if I am picking up what you are putting down...
You are contemplating importing an R33, getting body modifcations done to pass NHTSA saftey standards, then, Swapping out the VQ35DE, engine and transmission, into the R33 to get it federalized, then putting the normal engine trans back into the Skyline??
That would require way to much time and still not be as cost effective as you would think.
You can import a 1996-1998 R33, get the body mods done, send the car to JK Technologies to get the ECU modified for OBD II compliance and have a federally legal car.
It's costly, but it's the ONLY way to get do it legally and correctly.
If you are that intent on getting a Skyline, start saving your pennies, because I see the prices on most R34 and older Skylines dropping in price a bit.
I am sure more people than you realize have tried so many different ways of getting thier beloved Skylines here, but if those ways worked, I think we would see more of them on the road, and they would be legal.
