For anyone that has a 89-91 240sx, what are it's most common problems (mechanical, or whatever)? big or small please list.

Do you think that it is safe for me (student) to invest my money to get one?

I am not looking forward to a ton of repairs because of misc. small problems that will keep the car in the shop.

i will try my best not to abuse the car (will not redline, will do regular tune ups, etc) though.

thank you for your input!

Ony thing that happened to me was the power steering pump lost it ball bearings (I don't know much about it, but that's what my mechanically inclined friend told me). I have 167k miles and that's the only problem so far.

This little car has absolutely amazed me. I purchased mine for $1K one year ago. The previous owner, my boss' wife, took perfect care of the body and interior - looks new, well, pretty close. HOWEVER they did the bare minimum when it came to opening the hood. At 220K miles it had its 2nd pair of wires, most original sensors, 2nd clutch (I just replaced...now on its 3rd), and no major problems.

Sure, it was in need of one incredible tune-up; I'm still replacing everything.

Bottom Line: You, a poor student, can neglect this car, with hopefully less than 220,000 miles, throughout all of your school years (assuming you don't drive some crazy pilgrimage to Chili) and still have a reliable automobile.

I would suggest that you perform proper maintenance on the car, but, it is very forgiving if you forget treat it nice.

I've got a 91 with 136k on it now and absolutely no problems at all out of it yet. The car was immaculate until I had my accident.

As long as you maintain them, these cars will run for a very long time without major problems.

I disagree. I cannot speak for your car as an isolated case, but the consensus, so far, is that even if it possibly could go wrong, it hasn't...or at least minimally.

Tino, is your car starting to fall apart? What has gone wrong (in order to help out hamboi)?

This thread is completely retarded.

That question is like asking someone "If I put all these items on my lawn, which will get stolen first?"

You CANNOT ask someone what how reliable YOUR car will be based on the TYPE of car it is!
