I am sure the answer to this is on the forum somewhere but I could not find the search tool. I am going to start doing oil changes on my fiancees Rogue and would like to use synthetic. I use 0-20 Mobil 1 in my Tundra but am thinking maybe 5w-30 would be better for Rogue. Any thoughts?

Welcome aboard!

Nissan recommends 5W-30 for the Rogue. I would stay with that, for warranty reasons. If you go up a few threads to "The official Rogue FAQ" there is a bunch of info on oils and filters. There is a lot of valuable info around here.

Cheers!

cpobst,

I would stick with the 5W30 recommendation. Nissan has never spec'd any 20 weight oil for their engines.

However if you are genuinely interested in playing with different oil weights, I recommend doing an oil analysis (ie. Blackstone Labs, WearCheck) to verify what effects if any the oil is having on your engine.

Thanks for the advice. I will probably just stick with 5w-30.

I broke in my Rogue on Amsoil 5W-30. At 6000 miles I changed to their best 0W-30 signature oil, which is intended to used in all 5W-30 and 10W-30 applications. I now have 22000 miles andn the engine runs perfect with no oil consumption.

For what it is worth, my mileage averages 25 mpg in town and 28mpg highway. I also have Amsoil 80W-90 in my rear differential and transfer case. Love the stuff. Have it in everything I own.
