I know the owner manual that I found in a thread in the archives said use an oil that is GL4, and it even nicluded a pic from a nissan owner's manual.

What weight though? 80-90? 75-90?

Don't quote high performance gear oils, this is pretty much a stock 240 that will never be modded heavily.

Most likely will be NAPA's inhuose brand... (which is valvoline)

Either one will do you just fine. Even if you have a VLSD, the viscous coupling is sealed, so just use "stock" gear oil in the diff. As long as it's clean, the viscosity really isn't an issue with a street car.

So is 75w90 alright to put in a transmission with 80-85k on it?

just as long as its GL4. Some that I've looked at are GL4 and GL5 compliant...is that ok?

Use the blend. If your transmission is newer, use the full ester syn. Don at PDM recommended the Motylgear, not the ester to me and I've only got 33k on my blacktop's transmission. But for non-new transmission's use the Motylgear, it's got more additives to be a bit softer on the synchros he said.

When I have more time, I will elaborate on this, but the ester synthetics will destroy seals faster than non-synthetic oils. The majority of engine seals are designed using regular oil. I worked on the engine seal team for a project and we had a problem with the oil pan gasket leaking. We found out that they were using a synthetic oil for testing, when they switched the test to regular oil (which is what will be used by the manufacturer), the gasket passed with flying colors. The bottom line, synthetic oils are great, but you have to consider that you might have additional leakage problems, however this just might mean that you 150K motor leaks several drops of oil on the driveway compared to just one or two drops! At the other extreme, for cars such as Miatas, oil consumption can greatly increase to the point where gasket replacement is necessary as low as 60K miles.

I dunno whether it is Ester synthetic or not, but the only oil that has ever gone in my 240coupe is Castrol Syntec 80w-90. Thick as molasses and stinks like hell, but i have never had transmission probs, shifts just as smooth as can be. 77k on car and transmission.
