I did my first drift last night and was just wondering what everyone elses was like for them. Last night i was bored and it was nice out so i went for a drive and found a four lane road the intersected with a nother four laner, out in the industrial area so theres no one around. And i was just goffen and went into the corner at 55 and the rear sliped out, and i had lots of room to recover so i figered why not try to drift. so i'm doin 75 and hit the brakes turn the wheel and then gun it and i went sideways for the first time. it was one of the most awsome feelings i have ever felt. so i spent the next 3 hours finding coners and having fun. so what was your first time like?

That's pretty fast for your first drift. Most people probably drifted for the first time in the rain on accident :-P My first drift was the 2nd day I had my S13 and it was one of those too-great-to-explain kinda feelings. Good times.

A couple months after I got my car running, I decided to do a feint drift on my way to my friends house (mind you, an open diff). (left turn) The entry was perfect, but I got scared and let off the gas, and immediately, the rear caught traction and I was suddenly sliding right on a left turn, I narrowly avoided hitting a pole, and I stopped about 3 feet from a metal fence. Needless to say, I haven't been doing much drifting on the street anymore. Especially not a feint which is much harder to predict until you're in a slide.

It was about a week after I got my s14 and people were pissing me off and going like 5mph around this turn, so I just gunned it making a right turn into a little short-cut, cut the turn short and slid across the road to the right side; the road makes an immediate left turn so I let off the gas, then back on full throttle and went sideways around the turn and ended up straight. Me and my friend both looked at eachother with that "I just **** myself" look and my friend was like "That was the scariest, most ****ed up thing I've ever seen...and I loved it." So yeah...my first drift was pretty awesome and made me feel at the top of the world.

if dirt counts mine was when i was like 11 or 12 racing go-carts on my grandparents dirt track. i pretty much figured out the whole idea of drift then even though i didnt know what it was. still havent applied it to the road though. gotta fix my car and figure out what the noise coming from the suspension is.

totally by accident, i was in a movie theater parking lot right after it rained. and i was looking for a spot but messin with the cd player at the same time. well i wasnt paying attention and looked up at the last second and realized i was out of 'road' in 3rd gear so i turned the wheel super sharp and MEANT to hit the brake but i hit the gas. i spun 'em but miraculously slid around into the next isle without hitting any other cars. wheh! then i changed my pants

I got my S13 early last spring... pretty much all summer I messed around in this parking lot when I was on my way home from the girlfriend's house. Im pretty decent at getting it sideways (I like to power over and knife the clutch... havnt tried a feint or e-brake yet), but I've never done it on the street. I dont really think I ever will..

Anyways my first drift was AWESOME! I had never driven a rear wheel drive car before so I didnt even know what it felt like to kick out the tail, nevermind slide on all 4 wheels. I dont consider myself a "drifter" or whatever, but it's definetly fun as hell if you dont mind shredding your tires.

when i started autocrossing, i thought it would be un to go sideways in some of the corners. got confronted by the saftey stewards, found out that i was "drifting", then found out drifting was better than auto-xing

mine was in my dad's G35...my first RWD drift...i thought i'd be bad *** and showboat for my friends...downshifted into second, revved a little while i downshifted and dumped the clutch and got on the throttle...got a nice easy slide around the corner...slid for about 3 seconds...it was hotness

i'm addicted...i drifted all night long after that, a good 3 hours of practice...he's wondering why his tires seem to be wearing really badly :pface

ive been through 3 sets of tires in the rear an still have the same tires on the front. They have some uneven wear tho...never drift perfect. My cars been down for a while now an ever time I see a parking lot or a nice sweeping turn I just want my car sooooo bad. Just haul a$$ into the parkin lot feint an just slide all the way across is a great feeling. But recently was takin this nice sweeping turn at bout eh 75?(residential road dont try this at home) an my back right slipped off the road which sent me alot more sideways then I wanted locked it em all up slide sideways for a while spun around clipped a mailbox with my bumper then finish the spin in the guys yard an took off. That turn is covered in tire marks cause of me. NEVER try driftin at high speeds in the rain on residential roads!! Same turn but at like 50-60 in 4th gear! an I just did a lil feint spun her around complete 360 in a 2 lane road an just kept on my way. :) But even after many successes an more catastrophes I still due it for the pure addiction of adrenaline.

It was the second day after I bought my car. I was coming home down a nice windy two lane back road, when I saw a friend of mine ahead of me in his Eclipse GS-T so I thought I would play with him a little since he hadn't seen my new car yet. It had just rained and was drizzling a little as we came to an intersection where we turned onto a side road, well I kicked it down into second and gunned it, the back end swung around without hesitation and I found myself crossed up, almost fully sideways on this little two lane road, I counter steered and slowly let off the gas and was like HELL yeah this is the sheite! Ask 95SilviaSE about my interstate sliding experiance

Well my first drift was when my friends brother Bill took me out in his Sohc 85 rwd corolla with a welded up rear end and slamed to the ground. He did some dirfting and scard the living crap out of me. Then he said it your turn. I changed seats with him and started of by double clutching and shifting into second from first to kick the back end out in the turns. Then after about 10 completed drifts out of the first 20 or so attempted the exhaust fell off and we draged it home and replaced with self taping screws. That was my first drift. Nick

My first was unintentional, the 2nd day I owned my first 240, in the rain on the way to school (in the school parking lot). I experimented the rest of the week with it (while it continued to rain).

Totally unintentional. It was around Xmas time, cold out, snow on the ground but not on the streets so I figured it was safe. I made a left hand turn onto bridge with the old Suburban (RWD w/Locking rear end). I came around the corner normally but when I accelerated on the bridge the back end started to slide right. I totally freaked out, overcorrected right, and got the back to slide out the left side. After fishtailing back and forth a few times on this two lane bridge (thankfully with no-one on it) I got if back under control. Ok, I gotta figure this shiz out, luckily the forest preserve nearby was unplowed, so I got a place to practice, totally for safety sake. Once I got used to it I would kick the rear end out in the rain. People freak out when they see a Suburban sliding sideways for quarter block up State st. downtown. After pulling into the parking lot at school, an Asian came up to me and said "nice drift", I was like "Oh, Is thats what that is called?"

my first ever was driving my 91 toyota mini, slammed to the ground, some FWD offset 17"enkeis and the lowest profile tires i could find. the thing was so slammed it pretty much sat on the bumpstops to there wasn't much lean in the thing. i was turning from one highway to the next late at night and was taking the turn a little too fast considering the road was slightly misted with water. hit a small puddle that kicked the rear to the right side (pointed me left when i was trying to turn right) and then fishtailed back to the left essentially pulling an accidental feint drift. needless to say i couldn't do it that well again if i tried, but it felt good, after the slide began it was nice and controllable.

my first in my S13 was on a local on-ramp to the interstate. about 1am, no cars in the area (you can see quite far in every direction), slightly wet road. the ramp goes from an eastbound direction to a norhtbound lane on the interstate to it's a nice looping 270 degree turn slightly uphill but with a little banking to help. i came into the turn at about 40, pulled a small feint left before turning right and powering into it in 3rd gear. needless to say i completed the entire ramp within about 15 feet of where it intersects with an access road, when i let the revs fall too much and my crappy tires decided to catch and bounce the car back left again, across a small grassy area between the roads and nearly into a wall. no more street play for me

I dont for a second belive most of the "my first drift was by accident but i miraculously pulled it off perfectly like a profesional and it felt great and i went on to be a super street drifter" stories...

Who ever claims they didnt f-up their first drift is either lucky, lying or was shown how to do it beforhand. My first "drift" ended up with me pointed 180 degree's in the wrong direction.

I have messed around in the snow and rain, came up with some good looking stuff, but the standard is on dry pavment which is very challenging and hard to do with a stock car and an open differential.

First drift at 75 mph? give me a break... Even if you did manage to get your car sideways, there is no way in hell you had enough power to get the rear wheels spinning and maintain a drift.

:Werd It took all I had to keep my car on the road, thankfully no one was coming. Fishtailed like a mug for about 500-600 feet back and forth across the road.

Well mine is snow induced so i dont know how much of an "authentic" drift it would be. Anyways me and couple of friends are just drivin and there was some light snow on the ground, well we go on this road that lead right by a lake for about a couple hundred yards then it like wide u-turns away from it well we're goin at a decent speed(30-40 mph) and my back slips out, i was semi expecting it to and so i was sorta prepared and kinda counter steer just enough and keep on the throttle a little and next thing i know im following the curb of the road for like 300 yards, i mean i was just amazed with myself, just for keeping control like that for so long. Coolest thing was while drifting im like kinda watching the curb right over my right front headlight, man talk about the feeling of im a bad ***. Drifting is so much fun, even if im not doing the definition of a drift its still fun as hell.:ylsuper

Edit: By this time this had happened i have been driving with my car for about 9 months, i sorta know how to control my back tires slipping out, started drivin alone in my car in the rain so i know what its like, but i wouldnt consider those my first drift givin that it was uncontrolled up until i damn near stopped.

Hit a big puttle, then a curve right after at around 35mph, all 4 tires were wet and almost hit the median....(this was on my brother's "new" s13, while delivering it to him)...

Sure I was scared, but for some reason the terror made me countersteer and get home in one piece..

And for some reason after that, most of my powerslides/drifts are anger-induced somehow...

But i did get beter as the night went on.
