I WAS CLEANING UP MY CLIP ENGINE BAY A BIT AND I FOUND THE SERIAL NUMBER TAB AND IT SAID IT WAS AN HCR32 WITH A RB20DET AND THE PRODUCTION YEAR WAS 1998. IT HAS ABOUT JUST OVER 95K KILOMETERS ON IT SO 55K MILES. IS THIS AN AUSTRAILIAN CAR? OR WERE THEY PRODUCED THAT LATE?

Interesting. I thought australians imported them too. Or did Nissan sell them there. Either way, there is noy way your Rb20 was produced in 98

Umm yeah....where is this serial tag you found? If you're talking about the blue plate in the back of the engine bay, it doesn't say "PRODUCTION DATE" anywhere on there. 1998 is the displacement of the engine in ccs. The year is in japanese on that tag somewhere I've been told.

Hmm guess my tone in that last post did come off as a little harsh. Sorry about that. I'd love to know what year my clip is also so if anyone say a chart of something of what the years look like in Japanese so we could translate it that'd be great ;)

Hmm I found something that may be the year number. Look in the bottom right of the blue plate. There is a single digit there. On my car this digit is 5. The Japanese number their years by the reign of each emperor, and so this 5 would mean the 5th year of the Heisei era, or 1993.

See if you guys have a single digit number in the same spot as mine was, and if so this is probably the year.

1 = 19892 = 19903 = 19914 = 19925 = 19936 = 19947 = 1995etc

So all the RB20s should be 1-6 I believe?

Hmm I have since translated the kanji to the left of the number 5 on my blue plate and the kanji means 'construction location'. So maybe this is just an assembly plant number :(

maybe it is the year only 1988 in stead of 1998? I dunno, just a suggestion if the plate is hard to read

They werent SOLD in 88 but the car might have been made in 88. they dont just start selling cars out of the blue, they start producing them before they are released on the market.

but you are probably right anyway :D

I thought the same thing when I was doing my swap. It took me a minute to figure out that it was the engine displacement.
