What would be the first few upgrades to get a few extra ponies out of my 03 G35 sedan?

Easiest instant upgrade?

Intake. I think mine was $400. It isn't a big jump in power, but it is a step up...and when you are ready, contact nicoclub user RED_DET. He hooked me up with my intake. It's from R2C. It is simply awesome. I love it. I highly recommend it. A bit more power, and with mine, it has actually helped mpg a skosh as well.

Exhaust. Not one I have gotten yet (4 kids, house pmt., bike & car pmt's), but you free up the air coming in, and you certainly free up the air (or the used up air...carbon monoxide) going out.
My next upgrade will be an exhaust...and not some fart can s*** either! :gapteeth:

IC? Upgrade the computer controlling the system. I haven't seen any evidence on an Infiniti, but I had a friend with an Audi A4, and when he chipped his, is was certainly felt with the "butt dyno".

Oh, and I forgot...a plenum spacer. Especially for your engine. I guess it isn't effective on mine....but for you, it is a good upgrade.

R2C Intake
HR Y pipe
Coupe Mid pipe
Plenum Spacer

Those are the cheapest and most effective mods.

Stillen has a sale buy the exhuast and get the gen 3 intake for free. This is not a bad deal. Worth looking into.

supercharger. thats the only effective way to truly gain monumental horsepower gains...

the stock air intake is build efficiently enough already... an aftermarket intake may provide some horsepower increases but they will likely fall into the error measurement in a dynometer.

exhaust would be helpful to free up pressure on the engine.... again, youll only get a few extra HPs (if even that) with an axle-back or even cat-back system. you have to remove all cats in order to achieve true gains... which you shouldnt do for the environment..

it all depends on your budget and use (daily or track) of this car.

I'm talking about spending $500 to pick up 20-25hp and adding a supercharger is going to cost you close to 10k if you want to do it right and with that on the first gen g35's, the only way to go is turbo. We can assume that him asking about a few extra ponies was not looking for the obvious of adding forced induction.

Need your budget first...but I think if you add up all the small mods, your around 2k

Intake: 400
Spacer: 300-400
Exhaust: 1200-1500

A good supercharger starts at 3k (stillen) and vortech 4k. Like anything else it's easier to add small mods here and there. Looking back, I should have just done the supercharger.

Don't we all reflect back on things we've done and usually give some sort of regret to them! When I was a teenager I had a cheaper vehicle that my father had purchased. Every night I would make a plan of things I would do to it the coming weekend and holiday, then I would make a round trip to the local parts store and purchase everything that I would need. Looking back, I too could have saved all of that odd-job money and purchased a much nicer, substantial vehicle! But enough about me, sorry for rambling.

I'm not one to modify my vehicles anymore, but I know that the catalytic converters eat up much of the horsepower that could be available for use. Be careful about the laws and vehicle inspection in your area, but you may want to investigate removing your catalytics in order to free up some horsepower. Best of luck to your venture!
