I just bought a '72 4-door 510 today. I've been lurking on here for the last couple of weeks, and in that time I have learned that there are about a million different motors that can be swaped into these things. But I can't find how these cars perform with the various motors. I would like to know what type of horse power you can see with these swaps, and what kind of 1/4 mile times they result in.

So, what can you get from a built L-series? Ca? Ka? Sr? Vg?

Just trying to get some ideas for what I will do in the future.

Cool, thanks. That's a lot of good info, and gives me a lot to think about. But can some of you peeps out there with these swaps let me know what you're able to run in the 1/4, or at least what types of cars you can hang with in a race. Thanks again.

there si a guy with an L28ET, with NO2 running 9's in the quarter, but he's insane you'd be lucky to hit 200 whp with a full ballanced blueprinted buiild, or for less money swap in and CA18DET, there is an awesome VG33DE powered dime in the newest issue of GRM, deffinitely worth checking out

Yeah, 9 sec is a bit impractical for a street car. I'm looking more to be in the high 12-low 13 sec area. Nothing too crazy.

So mabey I should've asked what type of hp I'm going to need to be in that area.

Ka24det. great engine. not that much money. engine cost maybe $3000 with turbo and all the stuff to make about 300 hp. but thats starting to puch the ka on stock internals. so the next step would take u to the $6-8,000 range to get to the 500hp goal. but for cheap HP Ka is the way to go.

250 whp should get you intot he 12's these things are light weight, and the CA18DET is a lightweight power plant, I'd actually like to do the CA18DET into a roadster but that project will have to wait

Lets see some pictures of your 510!

Also, I'm a huge VG fan. FYI, the VG30DETT makes 300hp right out of the box and an additional 100hp can be had from intake, exhaust, and computer reflash. From there the sky is the limit.

man 400hp in a dime....sounds like a recipe for low low 11's or high 10's....and kinda scary.

a 400whp dime would be low 10's and one scarry ride!

the problem with the VG30DETT is all the plumbing, and being a twin turbo everything costs twice as much
