Fastback Jack wrote:Hello. I recently bought a 1990 240SX fastback and will be changing the oil, sparkplugs, distributor cap and wires this weekend. I wanted to know what kind of oil I should go with. I've heard from some people that synthetic oil is the way to go for a higher mileage car (mine has 208K on it) and that I should use a heavier weight oil like 15W50 to really get in there and lube everything up good. I was also told that I should add Lukas oil to the mix as it does very well in helping the oil to cling to surfances and prevent friction and buildup. What are your thoughts on this? Also, what kind of spark plugs should I go with? Are there any manufacturers that specifically design sparkplugs for Nissans or 240SX's in particular? Thanks in advance to all who reply.
Word is lucas is crap. I wouldnt use any oil additives. The best way to go with oil is step up from stock which is 5w-30. Oil usage is very opinionated as far as I am concerned. A popular choice is mobil1 syn. On higher milage 10w-40 is probably a good choice. If you arent racing the car that is your best bet.
The best plugs for your car are the factory NGK's. You could step up to NGK plats and have a much longer service interval between changes. Also go with the factory cap and rotor. I have seen too many aftermarket caps cause problems. Our dealer sponsors sell the ignition components you are looking for at a good price.give them a shot.
