Car: 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe 3.5 Fully loaded

Post

I just picked up my 2008 Nissan A/C 3.5 yesterday. I love it and its fully loaded. I haven't had to pump gas yet because they gave me the car with a full tank. I was surprised but obviously happy. I was wondering what kind of gas you were all fueling with? Regular or premium or whatever. This is my first new car and am very cautious and concerned about it. I assume premium is best but i was reading off of the Federeal Trade Commision (FTC) that AAA has stated: "Premium gasoline won't enhance car performance." Give me your thoughts.

Just looking for feedback. Thanks!

First of... Rockland county stinks lol...Second... Why would you put the same fuel in your new $30k car that the guys in Spring Valley put in their 1988 civics?

Just filled up my tank for the first ime, and went with mid Grade 89. I heard i wasnt neccessary to put in premium, but dont trust everyone's cheap gas either. So 89 I heard is always safe.

Congratulations on your first new car! You will never want to buy someone else's used POS from now on.

Here's a link to a thread we discussed very recently that is relevant to your question. I'm sure you can find many more using the search function.zerothread/276364

To sum up, your engine (3.5L V6) is designed to use all grades of gas in the U.S. but will deliver the best performance with 93. Whether you would be able to notice based on your driving habits is another question altogether.

Octane is simply a "knock index" the fuel is given. High octane fuels actually burn slower, so the ignition timing is able to be advanced for added horsepower without detonation.

The engine is equiped with a knock sensor and various other sensors so that the timing will not advance itself too much or retard itself to keep detonation from happening (explosion in cylinder occuring before top dead center). The 3.5 will run just fine on 87, and no difference may ever be noticed when using premium fuel. However, IF the lower grade fuel starts to cause a ping (detonation), the engines performance will be slightly decreased as the engine retards ignition timing to make up for it. Again, most people would never know the difference.

The conditions would most likely need to be extreme, and could likely be seen on a dyno.

So, fuel preference is just that. What do you feel like running? Thats what you should run.

I only use TOP TIER premium in my baby. Below is a list of TOP TIER gasoline retailers taken from toptiergas.com :

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

Since the minimum additive performance standards were first established by EPA in 1995, most gasoline marketers have actually reduced the concentration level of detergent additive in their gasoline by up to 50%. As a result, the ability of a vehicle to maintain stringent Tier 2 emission standards have been hampered, leading to engine deposits which can have a big impact on in-use emissions and driver satisfaction.

These automakers have raised the bar. TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. That’s something both drivers and automakers want to avoid.

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers

Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.

My previous ride I only use Petro Canada (91, Super Clean) and sometimes I treat her to Sunoco's Ultra 94.

I will continue to do this when my new baby comes in.

Also, I made use my sister stopped using Esso and use Petro Canada too when her 2.5S arrives.
